It’s very hard. Everything hurts. After a while you discover ways of not thinking about stuff. That’s about it – just don’t think about it. Block it out with whatever you can. The danger part is when you lose the power to block it; don’t lose the power.
Listen to music as u run as fast as u can for as far as u can, then when that stops working i moved onto writing short stories and when that stops working i am going to build a house out of matchstiks and gloo and when i finish burn it. and move on to something else like charity work. Never staying still long enough to think too much is how i survive…
ang, i love you<3 find something you can cope with. a simple release. something that you can turn to thats only you. something that lets you get away from everything. something that ultimatly makes you happier, mine is playing/making music.
Personally, there’s only a few things for me that keep me going in life.
Listening to music (mostly My Chemical Romance)
watching Disney movies
eating food and chocolate
drawing and sketching
I’m not proud of this…
I go through short periods of drug abuse and escapism. Obviously I dont’ recommend this route, especially not for adictive people. But I lapse into drugs for a few days until I can snap myself out of it.
Also, music, movies, books all help get over the hurdle. And walking my flatmate’s dog. He is such an old gentle beast, I can’t help smiling when I see him chasing pigeons.
Like causeway, if you have the power to keep the thoughts at bay – hold onto that.
But if not, I agree with the others. Sports, some sort of hobby, books, writing, drawing, etc.
Personally I try to just turn my brain into mush and be at the computer/TV and play games. Other than that I read and occasionally have some sort of outing. Sometimes I resort to drugs(though that’s not always helpful). Anything to change my thoughts or free me of thoughts.
Don’t take it personally, don’t think that you’re being singled out. Everybody on the planet experiences pain, you’re nothing more than just another random person taking his/her turn in the wringer. The Universe doesn’t care about you personally, so why would they/it go out of their way to torture you? Everybody suffers, it’s how you choose to react to the suffering that defines who you are.
Same as others – I use things to distract myself from everything. After a while they stop working but then you try and find something else, if you can.
@procel. You write stories? What kind? I used to write (for myself) but I haven’t been able to for ages now. I miss it.
@ imfine Short stories bout everything and anything. due to a request form one of the others ill be posting the one im working on now as soon as i finish the conclusion under the title Nero
Firstly, what are your actual pains – physical or mental & their causes? Complex issues require a specific nuanced approach i believe.
In simple broad terms, simple gentle exercise, daily 5km walk, swim etc (assuming you can do so) help release ‘feel good’ natural chemicals in the body. Gentle pain relief is always forthcoming.
For more serious pain issues, then a combination of appropriate medicine and if possible, gentle exercise. Water based exercise reduce the harshness of gravity and so simple things like walking in water provides some gentle but natural resistance, building up both muscle tone and building your bodies natural musculuar support system
Also listening to music whilst exercising has been shown to help people overcome their pain barriers/thresholds.
Otherwise things like pilates and even yoga are often used by elite atheletes when they are injured because it helps slowly strengthen their core muscles that support the body.
You can start by simply buying a pilates & beginner yoga dvd and doing it daily and see how you go? It’s a start.

you have something to take your mind off of the world, a hobby of sorts. It isnt a permanent fix but it helps

@Procel. Thanks. I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Listen to your body too. rest when you need too.
Hope this helps somewhat?
