What does it me to when something so very improbable actually happens? Does it mean that it’s a sign? Does it mean it’s a miracle?
Last October I encountered what I interpreted to be signs. The last of the three was encountering a woman that so adamantly disagreed with what I was doing that she found it within herself to grab my hand and stop me from doing it. What was I doing you might ask…I was fiddling with my finger nails.
What is the probability of that happening…
number of people that don’t like fiddling with finger nails divided by number of people in the world multiplied by
number of people in the world willing to grab someone’s hand to stop someone else divided by number of people in the world multiplied by
number of people that find interracial relationships acceptable divided by number of people in the world multiplied by
number of couples in interracial relationships divided by number of couples in the world multiplied by
number of people that like football divided by number of people in the world multiplied by
number of people that attend live football games divided by number of people in the world multiplied by…
Hopefully, you get the point. That probability is so small that when it occurs it would seem to be a miracle or sign. But, what I have learned is that the combination of those occurrences(that probability) actually happening doesn’t mean anything. G-d doesn’t exist or at least I don’t exist in G-d’s eyes.
Do “signs” exist in your world?

Everything means nothing
Things just happen.
I see signs that say “Stop” & “Dead End” out on the road.
I meant signs from a higher power.
Yes.
I went into a betting shop once and saw in the RP that this horse had been brought over from Dubai. I had just had my hair cut and felt a cold chill on the back of my neck. That was the sign. I thought to myself, there’s no way that the horse would enjoy running in these freezing temperatures and decided not to have a bet. The horse ended up winning at 5/2. The moral of the story is do the complete opposite that the sign tells you, or don’t get your hair cut on race day.
So was he..He was implying that he got a
“sign”, most likely from a higher being.
Signs from a higher power….
It all depends on what the ‘sign’ is…
Hmm, I don’t think there is such a thing as a sign from a higher power.
Any ‘sign’ I’ve ever come across always has a cause behind it that I can figure out.
Maybe I haven’t experienced enough signs, or I’m right. Whichever you want to go with.
Stephen Hawking answered your question perfectly as follows:
“the whole history of science has been the gradual realisation that events do not occur in an arbitrary manner but that there is a certain underlying order, which may or may not be divinely inspired”
To Duke of M: I LOVED THAT ANSWER!!! You made me chuckle out loud… and today I would have sworn it impossible! 🙂 THANK YOU!!
