I don’t like challenges. I don’t like obstacles. I don’t like trying for something unless there’s a guarantee. I don’t like vague goals that sound like monthly horoscopes.
However, life is full of challenges and obstacles. And now I’m getting the impression that somehow, the idea is that overcoming these obstacles is supposed to be one’s goal in life; that I’m supposed to strive to better myself and I’ll be all the better for it.
But, I’m a risk-averse person. I don’t like challenges. I don’t like obstacles. I don’t like trying for something unless there’s a guarantee. I don’t like vague goals that sound like monthly horoscopes.
So, the way I see it, I’ve got two options:
Option 1: Gain (somehow) a passion for reaching new heights. A passion for constantly bettering myself and overcoming any obstacle with a smile on my face because that’s what I’m supposed to do.
OR
Option 2: Get out of life.
I’m supposed to be myself, right? Don’t let other people get me down? “Do what I want to do!” Isn’t that always the advice?
Well I choose Option 2.

Choose Option 1. Allow for time and effort. You can reach new heights… and experience things you might not have experienced. It often doesn’t happen overnight. If you are determined to better yourself, you will. Assess your situation, decide where you want to be, and start working on the tweaks needed to get there. Expect some setbacks and some obstacles… but don’t give up.
Expecting other people to never let you down might be unrealistic. I’m not saying it’s right… but human nature is what it is…. and there will always be people who try to get in your way, put you down, or make you feel like nothing. Let karma take care of them. Don’t let it deter you.
Keep moving forward.
Everyone on here is going to advise you to go with the first one. Im not sanctimonious and don’t have all the answers. There are other options!
Don’t like challenges or obstacles? Shit, what are you still doing here? Life is a game! If you don’t have a passion, nothing you want to work for then I think you know my answer to your question.
If you do want to live…. I want you to know that life IS harsh. It deals everyone a difficult hand, but don’t give in, overcome it. Accept the challenges life gives you. Because happiness awaits you at the end!
Hey. Seems as though we’re in a similar place. I’ve never been a gambler or a risk taker. Investing energy and effort into a life that I never wanted to live in the first place seems counter-intuitive. I’m still on the fence. And I don’t believe that all positive effort gets rewarded and that “happiness awaits at the end” as conrad believes. I’m not saying he or anyone else is wrong, I simply don’t believe in karma. I wish I had decent advice to offer you. I thought at the very least you’d find a bit of comfort in knowing there are other people in your position struggling through ambivalence just as you are. Good luck in whatever you choose.
