No. Emo is not just cutting. Emo is a styl that began in the 80’s. Please don’t be one of those people who thinks someones “Emo” because they cut. You are you and nothing less. Maybe you need to talk about why you cut so you can find the cause and try to manage it.
You’re not. I am a cutter too, but everyone (even those who know I cut) still call me a preppy kid. Cutting is just a habit like drinking or smoking. Smoking doesn’t make you emo, so neither does cutting.
From wikipedia:
Today emo is commonly tied to both music and fashion as well as the emo subculture.[121] Usually among teens, the term “emo” is stereotyped with wearing close-fitting jeans, sometimes in bright colors, and tight T-shirts (usually short-sleeved) which often bear the names of emo bands. Studded belts and black wristbands can be accessories in emo fashion. Some males can also be often wearing thick, black horn-rimmed glasses.[122][123][124]
The emo fashion is also recognized for its hairstyles. Popular looks include thin, flat and smooth hair with lots of hair on the sides and back of the head with long side-swept bangs, sometimes covering one or both eyes. Also popular is hair that is straightened or dyed black. Bright colors, such as blue, pink, red, or bleached blond, are also typical as highlights in emo hairstyles. Short, choppy layers of hair are also common.[125] This fashion has at times been characterized as a fad.[126] However, in the early 2000s, emo fashion was associated with a clean cut look instead, but changed as it spread to teens.[127]
Emo has been associated with a stereotype that includes being particularly emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, or angst-ridden.[128][129][130] It has also been associated with depression, self-injury, and suicide.[131][132]
Some emo’s cut, and some cutters are emo, but one does not encompass the other (think of a venn diagram). Some may label you as emo, but they would be incorrect.
