I always think that maybe I’m just using him to fill the hole that he left. If you love someone you never really get over them. You just find someone new to distract you from the one before.
That’s not good. It’s never fair to love someone just to help forget someone else. For all you know, this current person may love you as completely as you love that last person. So you’re just creating the same heartbreak for someone else. It is possible to love more than once in life without using the current person as a way to heal or having any emotional overlap, and the way to do that is to finish healing first. Even if it takes years. There’s nothing wrong with just being single. I’ve been single since my last relationship ended in 2011, I was very much in love and I have yet to feel like I could really commit to wanting to be with someone else. I used to chain together relationships as is so common in the world these days, this time I finally stopped and found out it’s not all that scary to be single.
It just creates more and more heartbroken people out in the world when we choose to date someone to help us forget someone else. Then you break that person’s heart, they go hook up with someone to try to forget you, and the heartbreak spreads like a virus. Better to only enter the dating scene when you are a whole, complete person, with your previous scars healed, ready to engage in a completely fresh experience with someone new.
Single and celibate 4 years. My last relationship crushed me. But I recently got back in the game and it felt good. Maybe you need a transition guy but keep in mind you’re going to break his heart. You can distract yourself without loving people and making them fall in love with you.
