It’s the same I think as euthanasia on animals and humans. It’s ok for one but not the other. Why is it ok for us to kill animals when we know it’s best for them. They’d be in too much pain if we kept them alive but for humans it’s just so wrong? Wtf.
The death penalty is acceptable because the people that are being condemned are no longer a use to the state because of their crimes. Because they’re incarcerated they can’t make money, so in turn the state can’t make a profit off them. The only use a person is to those who hold the power to execute a person (the government) is based solely off their economic status and how much the state can benefit off of them.
There are economical reasons for as to why the government will not allow assisted or unassisted suicide and shame those who (seriously) want to commit it. The pharmaceutical industry needs consumers to buy its products. It needs depressed and other mentally ill people to remain alive so they may continue to leech money off of them and make profits. It also needs its standard consumers whom will benefit the economy through other means of spending such as food and other basic resources needed to keep a person alive. Not to mention other gizmos and whatsits that people purchase and especially taxes. To allow people to kill themselves would result in major loss of profits.
That’s what I’m convinced of that is. I don’t believe those in power have morals either way. We’re all just statistics, who cares about what a person wants?
The difference is choice, and the fact that one is implemented while the other is not, indicates that we are not supposed to feel as though we “own” ourselves. The unspoken message is that we do not belong to ourselves, but are instead the property of another, who can choose to take away what we are supposed to most highly value.
This system facilitates selectively allowing us certain choices, but removes the rest, and is even allowed to remove us. And most of the time, our “choices” are but illusions, meant to keep us pacified.
humans are terrified of death. they think they are more special that animals and life is ‘precious’ and all that crap. they cling to it. that’s why everyone just goes mad when someone admits they’re suicidal.. thus making it a crime to want to leave this life. Earth is full of injustice and evil, stupid misconceptions
Well, life is precious, even if you base that statement purely on the rarity principle. How many lives do you KNOW you will have? Just this one. And anytime you only ever have one chance at something, that makes it “precious” and “priceless” and “invaluable.”
However, lots of lives get wasted and/or never even have a chance to “blossom” into what a life “should” or at least, can be. So it’s a sort of paradox. Life can be simultaneously infinitely valuable, while also being worthless. It can be literally the most important thing, while also being utterly irrelevant.
After all, no matter how many or few of them we get, we only know of this one, and it is doomed to deplete and reach zero, someday. How much can something be worth, if you’re absolutely certain that it will end? Everything and nothing, at once. So… the value of “life” ends up being determined differently, by each individual perspective.
Even people who have fully understood the nearly infinite value of life, have chosen to surrender it to the unknown, facing the possibility of eternal nothingness, and exit this world.
Most conscious things are terrified of death. That’s why you shouldn’t corner a wounded animal. People are animals too. Push anyone far enough, and they’ll snap.
I believe it’s survival instinct to prevent self destruction, even among the general population. We lock up people who hurt others because we don’t want dangerous people on the loose..it’s too unpredictable. So is suicide. We think that a person who is suicidal as not caring for “life” in general..again unpredictable behavior. Society as a whole is just controlling itself to prolong the existence of humans as a species. The fact that society as a whole is driven to protect itself in all these ways is relevant to humanity’s transcendence into the after life. Basically we want people to live and become more obedient slaves. Happy slaves! And lessons be learned from those who dare to take actions for themselves. Society will show you how much it cares by making an example out of you.
”How much can something be worth, if you’re absolutely certain that it will end?” that’s something to think about. If assuming that we only have this one life, then it is worth something only as long as we are living it. Which is not that short. Around 80-90 years. It’s like going on a holiday for 2 weeks, knowing it will end but still people deem it worthy. Personally, I deem no worth for a human life knowing it will always come to an end unless you are able to leave some mark for society, for improving humanity or educating them in some way. I consider all other lives worthless, including mine, if they are the only lives we live. But then again, that’s my view of things. Other people see it different… I still don’t understand what gives someone the right to decide that someone else’s life is ‘precious’ , and removing their right to commit suicide
They actually put death row inmates on suicide watch… this can’t be life I mean that has to be a joke… I googled death row suicide watch out of curiosity and was dumbfounded to see they actually waste taxpayer money on preventing someone to kill themselves so they can kill them…I just don’t understand
Well… i can see “why” they would do that, but i still don’t agree with it.
Lots of people would prefer someone who has heinously wronged them, to “be killed,” rather than to be allowed to kill themselves. From the “punishment” angle, it makes sense. Then again, perhaps “he chose to face his own fate” would provide a better sense of closure, to victim’s families. Sort of like someone owning up to their actions, acknowledging their crimes, and “offering their own life” as a sacrifice, in exchange.
Idk. Lots of stuff gov’ts do is very questionable.

Transcendence indeed!! Huh!

Believe me ive been wondering about this everyday..
