ELYSIUM = Review!

Well I just got done seeing the movie Elysium with Matt Damen.
It was really well done as far as action and cgi. But lacked a certain back story all around. They sort of just tell a rough story about how the rich live in space and the poor suffer on earth. It’s the perfect movie for those who see the world falling apart in the future through over population, depleted resources, and a society of the few wealthy enough to leave the planet and still stay within reach enough to keep total control of the worlds people.
In this movie they have portrayed the future of Los Angeles to be the largest shanty town visible from space as a big black scare on the earth. And in this future super city the dominate language is Spanish, due to its proximity to Mexico and inevitable mixing of the populations over a hundred years. You wouldn’t be surprised to learn that in this future, medical care is universal…universally nonexistent!
The dominant language of the privileged aboard the massive space station Elysium is the French language..or at least that’s what I took away from the movie. The concept of the space station itself was intriguing, a lot is left for the imagination. Perhaps they will reveal more boring technical details about the station on the extended blue ray edition. lol
As far as R rated appeal for violence, almost every character was blown up rather than the majority being shot or decapitated. But a few scenes really shocked me and kept me on the edge of my seat. You’d have to see it to get what I mean. At the end the action sequences started to lose their luster.
All in all..I enjoyed the movie but probably wouldnt see it again in theaters.

The idea of the world splitting amongst the populations of rich and poor is a concept we all can relate with today. Many of us don’t want to live in a future being guided by today’s standards. The idea of having to fight off desperate individuals just trying to survive in the world, having no real active government concern safe guarding our rights as people. Police brutality ramped and unregulated, as well as political corruption. All these concepts we all share today, only personified a thousand times over and a thousand times again. If this is our future then the world will know only cruelty, where the poor and sick are treated like parasites and the elite live forever in a grand palace in the sky with all the amenities that a privileged life can offer.
