I don’t know where I’d be without my deformed maniac shelter puppy. (Why, and perhaps how, would anyone breed a dachshund with a pit bull?). Somehow, I just couldn’t say no to his white vest and two white toes on each foot. He’s the most bro dog I’ve ever had.
And cat people, please don’t confuse cats with the greatness of dogs; dogs are clearly higher in the Lamarkian chain of beings. ;^)
I used to have a big sloppy Saint Bernard. One day while walking back home, Bobo stopped at a teenage girl sitting on a curb in front of the bus stop. She seemed almost numb, staring through him, but he wasn’t deterred. He refused to move (and you can only negotiate so much with a 130 pound dog). He just stood there staring back at her.
Eventually, she breathed a tiny sigh and began to crack a smile. Bobo’s tail slowly started wagging, but he eventually wagged intently, opening his mouth in a panting smile, and giving the poor woman a good blast of his fish and potato breath (he needed prescription dog food due to his delicate stomach).
He just seemed to know she was sad, and wasn’t willing to move on until she had found her way back to that present moment.
If you see a friendly pooch, see if you can’t get a dog fix. No one said love is tidy, and most Saint Bernards don’t feel a need to keep it clean.

Pssh! cats >>> dogs, hands down. 😛
I know it seems silly, but whether I self-select out or go naturally, I worry no one will care for him.
Miss my dog like crazy. Was my best friend.
Got hit by a car. Saved a piece of his fur.
My dog is the only really important part of my life that remains. I’m beyond “worry” that no one will care for him if i go; i am completely certain that no one Can care for him. No one else understands him like i do, nor do they care to. I’m all he’s got, he’s all i’ve got, and when one goes, the other will soon follow. I hate the thought of him not understanding… and then understanding, that i’m gone.

What kind of pooch is he?
They really do get us. Maybe it was Dogs Decoded, but dogs do learn more like us than apes, and they read (and probably smell) our emotions by comparing the different sides of our face.
This morning, mine was growling in his sleep between breaths. It may have been his idea of purring. He’s very opinionated.

That’s the downside. It usually ends in heartache and a vet bill. That oxytocin bonding makes it brutal. I still really miss my previous labrador, but that’s what drove me to foster dog this guy (aka adoption via denial).
