The human race is just a chemical scum on a moderate-sized planet, orbiting around very
average star in the outer suburb of one among a hundred billion galaxies. we are so
insignificant that I can’t believe the whole universe exists for our benefit. That would
be like saying that you would disappear if  I closed my eyes.
–Stephen Hawking
If everything happen on earth is very insignificant, why can’t our problems?

It’s all a state of mind. I find reading quotes like the one you just posted here DOES help me realize that my problems are microscopic and I’m smaller than a speck of dust as far as this universe is concerned. I can’t maintain this outlook 24/7, many times I do still feel like my problems are huge, it’s something you have to practice, you can start to train yourself to realize problems are silly.
We’re cursed with narcissistic, delusional minds.
It’s just the human condition, and you are representing one out of over 7 billion.
Can you just imagine how extensive the suffering is in all the world if just your own problems can cause you so much pain and distress?
it is how you see your self towards the box.if the box is your family, then you are important.but as far as the box gets bigger, you will get smaller.so yes if you think yourself inside the universe, you are null.it is like an electron in a huge egypt pyramid.but the thing is we humans live in a tiny box, that mostly includes;our family, our friends and the community around as.most of our life is bound on this box.and in this mini box we think we are important,as well as our problems.
*it is all about the box*
Well because of the definition of the word “insignificant” which is “too small or unimportant to be worth consideration.” and many of our problems are far beyond “too small or unimportant”…. If most of us tried to ignore our problems and dismiss them as insignificant that would be the very definition of “delusional” which is not good for you because reality and your problems have a way of saying “look ***** you will acknowledge me”….and it is better to recognize the problem and realize its significance rather than get stranded in pretend land
When i consider my personal, universal insignificance, I get a sense of helplessness due to realizing just how profoundly, such a tiny, universally irrelevant problem, can affect me.
Something no one else understands, can and has ruined my life. The resulting misery is inescapable, and is /the/ most significant thing i experience… and with each heartbeat, i am reminded of how insignificant the ruining of my life and subsequent torment actually is, to anyone else. What torments me is ignored by others… even when they request an explanation. What torments me was mostly caused by others, who chose not to consider the potential of their choices for causing irrevocable destruction to my life.
And yet… they all scurry around, striving to survive, but never prosper… as if to indicate expectation of some reward… as if they think “this is all just a test, and you have to pass it to receive your reward…” which makes this life itself meaningless, other than perceiving it as the gateway to “something more…” which has, at best, been only fabled, but never actually seen. By anyone.
@pain:
but wouldn’t it be “better,” to be stranded in pretend land, which would necessarily mean that your problems and reality are no longer able to force your acknowledgment of them (perhaps due to your attention and consideration no longer even being required)?
But yeah… unless you actually can get stranded in pretend land (where your problems no longer disrupt you), reality and problems have a tendency to prevent pretend land from even being entered.
@clevername: I guess it would be if you could actually remain there without your problems stalking you and then kidnapping you and returning you to reality….its kind of how weed works….like weed temporarily takes you to pretend land but it doesn’t allow you to stay there….upon “coming down”… reality is there to greet you with open arms….and the hug it gives you is with arms laced with thorns and spikes
