I personally am not Religious & I am currently writing a piece on my beliefs of the Religious system… which I will be posting in the following week or so. Curious to see the views of others, please share. 🙂
Hmmm…
Not an easy question, at least for me. I was “herded” to church as a kid and hated it. As a teen I went my own way and became a hard-core Jesus freak. After a while I shelved that for something better – intoxicants. Then I had my own family with kids and went back to the organized church for many years but just couldn’t get into it. I was too bitter about life. Experience told me that there is something bigger than humanity out there – I eventually leaned toward a more “spiritual” school of thought. I’ve had some parapsychological experiences and although I believe I may have some “divine” entity available to me I don’t feel much connection to it. In reality I am more open minded about spirituality than I used to be but usually don’t give it much thought unless I distraught over something – and then I just get angry. Maybe I need a new epiphany…
What I’m about to say isn’t logical…. there are many different races. We were placed here by separate aliens species so we could mix breed and produce new races to be placed on Uranus.
I’ve never believed in god or that the universe was created, designed and inspired by something who knew what they were doing. It appears this isn’t fatal. Despite the necessity of god in most religions you don’t have to believe in A god because as with life generally we pick and choose the parts we find agreeable, dismiss the rest and proclaim ourselves something we aren’t. I could do that but I don’t because I’m not weak and am unable to conform or be assigned to a group that doesn’t represent my values.
I agree that only the weak seek to believe in something greater than themselves. I was however pushed into religion at a young age, I just never developed the “faith” or wasn’t properly brainwashed.

@Persephone: Haha… I’m calling right now, but this creepy Korean guy keeps answering, asking if I want taco. I told him I already have taco, I want lightsaber, but he isn’t getting it. 😕
Atheist here. I believe in nusing, Lebowski. We are simply bags of bacteria. We developed language and rationalized our way into the insanity that we are today. There is no soul. No such thing as love.
I did, however, used to believe in reincarnation and such leftover from a religious upbringing. Knowledge from the Internet (best invention ever) and deep personal introspection and consideration freed me from the grasp of idiocy and irrational belief.
No small part of my depression springs from the fact that there are still so many in this world, so many in my life, that cling to that ridiculous belief system and hold that self-righteous piety in spite of contrary evidence of lack of proof. They need that authoritarian God-daddy in their lives to keep them from thinking on their own and acting “good” so that they do not burn eternally in some fictitious hellfire. This site is a welcome respite for it’s lack of bible thumping God-ites aside from all the other comfort it offers. So very glad this is here.
I’ve tend to notice that people like us seem to be more rational when it comes to the insights of Religion. “Normies” on the other hand, I get a kick out of their devotion to an imaginary existence and you can almost see the sickening desperation in their eyes. Sure, I’d love to believe that there is “God” and a magical land I will float off to when I die, but that is just absolutely absurd. If anything I’d go to hell anyway and so would most of the people who “pretend” to be God fearing devotees.
I agree that love is just probably just some chemical reaction in the brain, mainly it’s just a tool to cause reproduction. Maybe maternal love is the purest form of love but then again, it is just survival of the fittest. That’s my science brain talking, the other part would like to believe there is more, some meaning to all of this. How can this all be coincidence? Then I look at the bad atrocities happening in this world, a planet full of misery and I wake up from let’s all sing kumbaya around the campfire, but that’s just me. I do hope that when I die, some kind of deity will prove me so wrong!
Thank you for replying. Too often, it’s easy for our posts to go unseen here and it’s nice to know you have read them. I enjoyed and agree with your response as well.
I am Roman Catholic. Lapsed. But for my end I have purchased a rosary and a special Carmelite necklace called a scapular that protects the dead from destruction and Hell. Who the fck knows what works, but this works for me, and I will be taking the mystery of the resurrection and reaffirmation with me as I cross over to whatever is next. I could be totally wrong, but for purposes of “facilitating me passage” I have my rosary, my scapular, my pills, my noose and my gin. Good times. I get some relief from thinking about the Christian story, and these are my items that are carrying me from here to … there, wherever there is. Peace to all in 2014.
Our tenants are simple. When someone says something obvious to you, like, “You have hair,” or something, just reply, “What?” And with each consequent reply, repeat, “What?” until the person you’re talking to starts repeating, “What?”
The more times they repeat it, the more Whatish you are.
There’s a communist guy who once said that religion is the opiate of the masses. Its nice to feel cozy, warm and snug, even if the sensations you’re experiencing are only in your head. Drugs and religion can both make you feel invincible, and you don’t have to think much to get all warm and tingly inside.
I have a complaint for the Heavenly administration. Heaven sounds incredibly boring, and Hell sounds too much like life on Earth. Is there some third option we might consider? Like, a quasi-heavenish-hell?
i only wonder how my religious views have changed with time:
inherited hinduism -> 7 day trial atheism -> full time atheism -> science -> spirituality. and all through this time i had background spirituality and agnosticism always present. so basically i was just experimenting, as i still do.
its hard to put it in specific words because my life and my “religious views” are one and the same. to put all this in one word i’ll still go with my username: seeker.
also, i trust Buddha (doesn’t mean i’m buddhist).
there also came times when i was heavily drawn towards metaphysics, and you know all that alien and conspiracy theories, ascension and intergalactic organisations, i don’t know the term for that. lately i was more towards philosophy.

I am a Whatrian. We proclaim the gospel of What. What? Exactly.
A Whatrian… first time I ever heard that one. lol

I’m an antitheist. God is an abomination to humankind, and He must be overthrown. The time for rebellion is now!

You should all join the church of the Holy What.

I wouldn’t say I’m religious, but I have a habit of praying to Hulk Hogan before I punch the lights out of Target employees.

There is one God, He created all, including each one of us, gave us each a unique soul.
There is only one way to heaven through His son, Jesus.
Those who outright reject Him are doomed to hell, a real place of excessive and never ending torment.

hmmm. it all doesn’t come under the term ‘religious’. i guess i misinterpreted it. but if not “technically” then “essentially” its religious.
Agnostic.
Religion makes us all stand on a pedestal. I would rather step down.
