I wish I could have some sort of authority. I do well with power, I get things done. Everything is about control. Everything  is about power. It’s all about who listens to you, who you listen to, and how shit gets done.

Allow me to introduce to you, the concept of “manufacturing your own authority.”
Section! Two-fifty! 1 o clock! Reference barnhouse, seen?! 8 o clock of barnhouse – enemy machine gunner – at your target in front, GO ON!
[INTENSE SMALL ARMS FIRE, MORE ENEMY MOVE INTO POSITION]
Man, none of that means shit without discipline. You put a bunch of reservists up against a regular outfit and you’ll see exactly what I mean. A good example was when my Sergeant ripped into a young Second Lieutenant: “Sir, you are confusing your rank with my authority. I advise you FUCKIN’ SLING THAT RIFLE PROPERLY OR I’LL RIP YOUR FUCKIN’ ARM OFF AND BEAT YOU WITH THE SOGGY END!”
Rank and authority, power and discipline. Things are different when lives are depending on you, but I’m a team player and appreciate the fact that I will fuck up from time to time. Lead on, even when it’s just me. For if I cannot lead myself out of a dark place; I cannot lead anyone else.
