I took this photo this morning of my dog Finnegan slurping my cat, Charlie Chow Mein. Maybe I should say his cat. Finnegan is laid back. You can take food out of his mouth and he won’t bite you. If he feels his cat is being threatened though he will become fiercely protective. He will place himself between the perceived threat and the cat, be the threat human or another animal, and he will growl menacingly, his back hairs standing up a bit. And if the threat doesn’t back down quickly he attacks. A little 10 pound dog is willing to risk getting hurt in a fight to protect his 23 pound cat. Who, for the record, doesn’t need the dog to fight his battles.
Two species considered as less intelligent than us yet accepting one another. One being willing to take risks for the other. So why can’t we as humans learn to accept each other? Or even just learn not to be mean to one another.

GAH! The cuteness…it’s too…damn…MUCH!!! (Charlie Chow Mein – I will name my next dog Freddie Foo Yong).
Reminds me of this story I saw on the telly, where a herd of cows all protected this one lone sheep whenever the conservation workers tried to grab him and take him back to his farm. It’s funny how something we mortals perceive as primitive are doing something we’d struggle to attain in one lifetime – compassion for another being, whether alike or blatantly foreign.
Freddie Foo Yong… That’s hilarious π
Yet, there are cats being mauled by dogs all around the world. Similarly, there are a lot of people who like PokΓ©mon but we all know that’s just a metaphor for underground dog fighting.
You see you’re absolutely right. There is a problem in the world today but it has absolutely nothing to do with cats or dogs. It has everything to do with the 1% of the population controlling 99% of it’s wealth.
Do you think the world would be a better place if this man was in charge?

Sorry Kenny, your post went to moderation and I only just noticed it. Not really the convo I was looking for but hey…why not? π
Yes, cute. I’m much the same as your pooch with the people I love. So much the same actually that hopefully if I ever meet my lady friend, I can keep from licking her face like that. I may need a shock collar or something…haha.
You’re funny cope π I hope you meet her. I hope she doesn’t mind slurps lol.
Me too…about meeting her I mean – not slurps, haha.
She’s a sweetheart though and I feel fortunate just to be her friend really…I guess I just feel like she would be disappointed if we met. That’s what has me so down today. I’ve been thinking about her…Sigh…and then looking at me.
Give her and you a chance. Happiness is fleeting so grab it while you can. What if you are wrong? About her being disappointed? If you don’t try then you both might lose something wonderful.
I totally agree with theWhisperOfMySins, if you don’t bother copelessness then you’ll always wonder if it would have worked out. The other thing is don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you’re not good enough for her, of course you are, you’re good enough for any woman. You come across as a good natured and caring person which many women actually want.
Oh, and it’s a nice cute picture.
She’s already wonderful without me. Still, I wish her and I could be wonderful together. We seem to find something in each other, a deep sense of understanding and comfort.
That she is interested in me fills me such emotion and incredulity. I am strong and fragile all at the same time just by the thought.
I know she deserves better, though she, like you, would disagree. She has told me as much already. I plan to try despite my feelings of inadequacy. Should our paths coincide, my hope is that, even if she ends up disappointed in me, that for a brief moment she sees herself how I see her – a remarkable being of light, caring, and kindness.
Sorry for hijacking your post by the way Whispers. Please resume talk of furry cuteness and slurping.
Lol cope, my post was meant to start a convo and it did so I’m content. As for furry cuteness and slurping…I’m surrounded by pets so there will many more posts like this to come I assure you! :p
Well, feel free to spread your furry cuteness then.
Unfortunately where I live I can’t have pets so I am just surrounded by my thoughts.
I’m quite tired too. Need sleep right now…
Surrounded by pets, wow you’re so lucky, like copelessness I’m not in a position to have pets at the moment, if only, they’d be such a great comfort to me as they are to any one who loves animals.
Yes nias I am really lucky. I try to remind myself of that often.
Having decided to cyberstalk this interesting personality known as theWhispersOfMySins, I stumbled on this awesome thread from ages past π
First, for those just arriving, let’s pause for a collective “AWWWWWwwwwwwwwwwwwww.”
Man, that’s good for the soul.
Now let’s launch into some fun pseudo-scientific psychobabble! Darwin, whom I alternately admire and want to punch in the face, wrote volumes about the logical and efficient interaction between lifeforms on this planet. His theories explained a great deal about who we are & why we are this way. Basically, said Charlie, all individual lifeforms act in their own best interest which, in turn, benefits the collective whole (note to self: re-watch Michael Douglas’s “greed works” speech from Wall Street).
But then ole Charlie hit a stumbling block. How the frak do we explain the prevalent phenomenon of lifeforms that put themselves in mortal danger in order to protect others? Well, says Charlie, they are instinctively preserving their species, their genetic stuff, as a mother might die for her offspring without a second thought. Sure, sounds good.
But then…!
Then Charlie stumbled on a bigger stumbling block. How the flux do we explain when an animal will die to protect another animal from an entirely different species? No genetic crossover whatsoever. You know what Charlie said? He dubbed the phenomenon “interspecies altruism” and he explained it by saying “Golly, I dunno.”
And there you have it. Golly, I dunno either. It doesn’t make a lick of sense (pun intended lol). And yet there isn’t a human alive who doesn’t respect it as being some higher form of nobility, pointless as it may be.
So bringing things full circle to the 2 fluff muffins in question, Finny & ChaChow, all I can say is what you said, Whispers. We have so much to learn. Knowledge & wisdom doesn’t always come from “intelligent” sources. In fact I might say that the greatest wisdom on the planet can never be put in books or words or mathematical equations. Gimme us bunch of fluff muffins and some time to think about it, and we’ll be wiser than Tesla ever was.
Of course Tesla had a pet cat & a pet pigeon to keep him in line π
