I try to be open about my depression but as soon as I say anything about suicide it’s like they stick their fingers in their ears and pretend they didn’t hear me.
Sounds to me like they don’t want to hear it because the reality of you feeling that way is scary to them.
Maybe if you tell those closest to you in a straight forward manner they’ll start to confront the reality of how you’re feeling.
It sounds like you want help with your issues and that’s good because once those who love you understand things might start to move quickly in regards to treatment and support options.
Just don’t give up and let their seemingly unconcerned reactions make you stop talking about it.
If you feel that you’re running out of time though you could bypass those around you and try to take some control of it by talking to your doctor or a support organisation.
No one likes to hear bad things. everyone likes to sugarcoat things and say that everything will be ok, even if it takes time. They hear the word ‘suicide’ and all of a sudden they see what true pain and depression can eventually lead to and they don’t want to believe that they could feel that way one day too. They push their own problems away or stifle them and they expect everyone else to do the same. If you are trying to open up it means you want to get better, so for that it means you have progress in helping yourself so I guess a small congratulations is in order for that. I wish you the best of luck and i hope you don’t let the people who don’t want to listen change your mind as far as healing and moving forward. You will have the satisfaction of getting through everything one day. Stay strong <3
You should choose wisely of who to tell these things to. It’s a sensitive and controversial topic.
As aforementioned, no one likes to hear bad things. People aren’t ready to accept that scary reality of death.
Suicide is generally stigmatised because people believe that it’s selfish and are afraid of losing a person. That’s why they don’t want to hear it.
I don’t feel the need to openly tell people about this problem. I already know that there is little that they can do. They might be unwilling to help you or even judge you for having suicidal thoughts. They may think you’re being dramatic. There are many reasons why you don’t open up to everyone about it.
This is not to say that you should suffer in silence and tell no one at all. It’s a warning – there are people out there who won’t take kindly to you voicing your thoughts. Like what happened to you. They don’t want to hear it.
The good thing is… there are people who are willing to listen. Us, for example. It’s because we all have that empathy for one another.

That’s because you’re showing people what they might become if they didn’t “cope” with their problems.
