Nine inch nails, metallica, queens of the stoneage, take your pick, although the misery in the music for these artists is a bit more indirect/sophisticated.
Listen to a bit of fleetwood mac, really listen you’ll be surprised.
I’m particularly fond of Metallica’s Ride the Lightning album. Trapped Under Ice is THE depression anthem. I don’t think anyone would classify Metallica as death metal since they’re so commercially popular, but the lyrics on every one of their songs beg to differ.
I like NIN also. Heavy beats, loud guitars, dark & angsty themes, lotta screaming. If that ain’t metal I don’t know what is 😉
Another not-typical-metal band I like is Type-O-Negative. They recut the soundtrack to Nosferatu and it rocked. But the best part about that band was seeing the interviews with the singer… how he lived past the age of 16 is beyond me.
Haha what a brilliant post! I love the Deathstars when feeling down although they are more glam/electro rock than ‘proper’ deathmetal (thinking higher tempo e.g. Cradle of Filth etc.) but all great music. Gah, music is one of the few things that makes me feel remotely alive and can change my mood in an instant, and in any direction too depending on the track :/

I like a band called Suicidal Tendencies

It’s been awhile since I last listened to black metal… Burzum’s a classic.

I absolutely love Burzum. War and Stemmen Fra Tarnet are among my favorites. I don’t agree with Vargs political views but I love the music and mood.
NIN . not metal but <3
