I can’t help it. I’ve always been short for a guy but it never bothered me until a couple of years ago when my hair started shedding. I don’t want to be short and bald. Plus, I’m convinced that my hair loss isn’t normal – I think I’ve developed some kind of food allergy because after eating certain foods my face looks like it’s retaining water and the circles under my eyes get darker.
My parents won’t let me get tested because they say it’s too expensive and they claim they don’t notice any of the issues I’m talking about. It makes me feel like I’m crazy and that it’s all in my head even though I know it’s not.
I don’t even know what I can eat any more because I can’t tell what my body is going to react to. I’m feeling like my only choice is not to eat anything at all. I feel like I’m developing simultaneous food and body issues.
There’s no one I can talk to either. It’s not normal for men in society to be so neurotic about their appearance. I’m too self-conscious to discuss this with even a psychologist.

How old are you? You might have Celiac’s Disease (an allergy to wheat gluten), as that can cause hair loss.
Btw, it’s perfectly normal for men to be self-conscious about their appearance. I’d suggest talking to a General Practitioner doctor and they can hopefully refer you to an allergy specialist.
Yeah, I suggested Celiac’s to my parents but they won’t believe me or let me get tested. I’m still a teenager which is why my hairloss is so strange.
That happened to a friend of mine, and it turned out they had Celiac’s. If your parents aren’t making appointments for you, you have to do it yourself because Celiac’s could cause severe damages to your internal organs if you don’t get help for it (or for whatever is causing the problem). You wouldn’t want to develop Crohn’s Disease or something as a result of not receiving a proper diagnosis and subsequently changing your diet or taking medication, etc.
You have the right to see a doctor at any age, its financial responsibility. go yourself and a health advocate emancipate you for this issue
Everyone everywhere is self-conscious of their appearance, if not obsessed. A psychologist wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow at this. Industries of hair replacement, protein powders, gyms, workout equipment, tanning salons and more have all arisen, at least in part, because men everywhere are worried about their appearance. So on that count, at least, know that you are entirely normal.
