“There is a very popular opinion that choosing life is inherently superior to choosing death. This belief that life is
inherently preferable to death is one of the most widespread superstitions. This bias constitutes one of the most obstinate mythologies of the human species.” – Mitchell Heisman

Life can be good but that is relative to the individual’s experience. No one can say that life or living is objectively good. They think that whoever has a existential view on life must have a mental illness or have something in them that is incorrect. It’s dismissing others’ perspective solely based on the inherit validity of their own. And there lies the fallacy!
You still have the illusion of a death denying ideology with your argument.
TheHandle,
The reason for this, the human species from the moment of birth only function is to survive, this is built into us, it’s a very rare thing that a human being does not want to survive, therefore the majority of the human race doesn’t even think about a choice of life or death.
However In most cases of suicide the person that is contemplating doing it, is one that is tired of surviving for one reason or another, and that’s where your quote comes in.
We human beings are predators that have the unique capability to reason and learn that other predators can’t do, example you won’t catch a tiger jumping off a cliff to end it all “it doesn’t even cross their mind” but human’s for example can.
As a human myself i can tell you several reasons why death isn’t so bad if your living a horrible life through reasoning, however my beliefs may not be an others.
1. Thing’s weren’t so bad before i existed, i can’t remember a single bad thing that happened, so not existing can’t be bad.
2. Everyone is going to die sooner or later so what’s the difference if it’s sooner the results are the same.
3. My life is meaningless in respect to the big picture.
Now here is some reason to continue living for example:
1. This thing life can be fun, and if you enjoy it why be in a hurry to die?
2. if your enjoying being alive then why be in a hurry to die?
3. My life is meaningless to the big picture but it’s my desire to give it meaning for me while i’m alive.
So i’m not one to judge, if someone prefers death over life that’s their choice, besides i’m not going to stop something that is going to happen sooner or later anyways, everyone die’s.
But i will say this, before anyone kills themselves they need to think real hard about it because this thing “life” as we know it only happens once but then we do become a part of the big picture.
Death is not to be feared we die for a reason, we wear out, so staying alive till you wear out is our goal.
