I rely so heavily on music to get me through each and every day. I’m not sure what the benefits are though, as none of it is uplifting. It only justifies my thoughts and feelings, making them feel normal, like depression is the new norm for me. Maybe it is prolonging my depression, but it makes it easier to deal with. The last 5 years have generally sucked, with the exception of a few evenings when I attended concerts and forgot about the rest of the world for some hours. My biggest fear is losing my love of music. Life will be meaningless.
Any favorite bands that help you get through the long nights?

I rely on music as well, but recently have started mixing in uplifting music with the dark depression suff. Although the balance of both is completely needed. I don’t know what kind of music you like, i’m mostly a metal head myself. I really enjoy Sonata Arctica, Tarot, Tool, Machine head. Some more uplifting powerful stuff is Enigma, Animals as leaders, A perfect Circle, Thievery Corporation. I would highly recommend mixing in some powerful positive or at least hopeful music in.
I like mostly post-hardcore stuff. Brand New, Citizen, La Dispute, Thrice, Nirvana, etc. Not too far off. I like Took and Machine Head too. Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll have to check them out.
No problem.
I like the Smith’s Song “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” or “How Soon is Now?”
And let’s see… Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”
Sara McLachlan’s “Sweet Surrender” and “Arms of the Angel” or “Building a Mystery”
🙂
What do you like?
I hope you don’t lose your love of music! 🙂 Right now I want some instruments to play ….. sooooo baaaaddd! I have played some and not played some but they are definitely on my to do list if I get any money ever. lol
Thanks for the recommendations! I like a couple Green Day songs, and I like “Sleep” by The Smiths. I mostly listen to Nirvana and stuff like that, but I’ll certainly check out what you said. Thank you. 🙂
I want a guitar sooo bad. And I like singing, but only do it with I’m alone because I kinda suck. Lol. What instruments do you want?
I’ve wanted to be a metal singer since I was a kid, and I just recently got an electric guitar. I play it a lot and it’s fun, but singing in more my passion.
That’s awesome. Getting paid to sing would be amazing. Did you ever try starting your own band or anything?
Not yet, I blew my voice out a little while ago so i’m in the process of retraining it. Also have some seasonal allergy issues screwing my voice up that I need to address. Currently trying to learn electric guitar before doing anything to really pursue being in a band.
That sucks, but awesome you’re learning the electric guitar. I’m jealous. Lol.
Thanks, check out the song sin and sacrifice by devildriver. I want to learn to play that song badly.
Well I can already play it badly, I mean I want badly to learn to play it, lol.
Lol. Its awesome.
Well 2 instruments as of late. A Dulcimer and a Celtic Flute. I’d like to do music that doesn’t have words and is just enjoyable. That works for me since I think my voice probably sucks.
Though I do miss piano. I took that in HS.
I would say before you invest in a guitar you may want to really try out a number of different instruments to decide what you want. I thought I wanted to be a guitarist but I really was not into it like I was piano. With guitar I would say some people have a natural talent or knack for it. Which makes me so envious in an “I adore it” way. I’d love to be able to Jam like Eric Clapton… but then I guess a lot of people would! Just make sure you want to really do the investment cause then or else your stuck with an expensive purchase wishing for something else. I have 2 guitars that I don’t play. Its quite a pity 🙁
A Celtic flute?! That’s awesome! I love Celtic music.
How can I experiment with different instruments before buying them? Like lessons and stuff, or…?
If you are interested in guitar you can try one out at the store. I let someone borrow my guitar once for a gig so if you know anyone that has one they might loan you it or at least let you try a few chords and stuff. My hands are short so it was hard for me to play the upper frets. Longer fingers help in guitar. That’s just how it is. Bass guitar is usually easier to play than lead. I got a stratocaster because my teacher told me it could do either. If your lefthanded too expect to pay around 100.00 more. However, you can have them switch the strings out on a righthanded to play lefthanded. Hope that helps…
It helps a lot. Thank you. 🙂
There’s this song called Lonely Nights by Bryan Adams and it’s something that I can really relate to. Although the lyrics are mainly about romance, they also describe how much I miss the old me, the one that was innocent and not depressed like I am right now. This song is helping me discover that I am not alone with my emotions.
