Okay so i need opinions here!
what counts as a suicide attempt? i looked it up and nothing really answered my question. So i understand obviously intentionally ending ones own life but not succeeding is an attempt. so i guess what im getting at here is…
Is this an attempt:
if someone were to take a lot of pills, enough to do serious damage and likely kill them, and put them in their mouth and halfway down their throat, but gagged and didn’t get to swallow any. AND had a note and all that jazz ready….
is this an attempt? the intention was there but no physical harm was done and nothing happened at all, is it? because idk.
to anyone who gives their opinion.. THANKS! it is much appreciated!!

well, if pills a meant to go in your mouth, and you put them in the mouth, thats an attempt despite if success or fail
doesn’t really matter if you gag them up, get intoxicated and body rejects and vomit them up, or you regret and decide to forcefully purge them from your stomach, they went in, it’s an attempt
even if it was sincere or not, successful or not
now put on the hat and take the diploma and get back in the seat, valedictorian speak starts in 15minutes
a knife cuts, gas is breathed, jumpers fall, doesnt matter how the end result turns out if the deed is done, severed the right artery, purchased wrong as, or water broke the fall… it’s an attempt,
and you should maybe evaluate and reflect on your situation and see if help for this moment, (successful or not), might be the right thing for you
Sure I’d call that an attempt. Anytime you take action to end your life would count as an attempt imo.
I wouldn’t know if the medical community has a more precise definition, like you take a bunch of pills, they pump your stomach-that was certainly an attempt, but sticking pills in your mouth, then taking them out might not qualify-though as mentioned, I’d consider that an attempt-even though no real harm came of it.
Wouldn’t risk it, only a 1 in 50 chance with pills. More likely to end up in a hospital.
If it felt like it was an attempt then it was an attempt.
If you need to keep track of attempts, might I suggest a custom Snorlax skin SP suicide attempts passport. It’s filled with drably decorated pages perfect for the admissions stamps of major medical orgs or self administered bandages you feel a particular connection to. It can be yours:

From the cdc.gov site:
A non-fatal, self-directed, potentially injurious behavior with an intent to die as a result of the behavior; might not result in injury.
Your hypothetical scenario certainly fit the definition provided by the government.
