I always grew up as the “oddball.” But it’s my refusal to blindly conform to idiotic societal customs that’s casted me aside as a weirdo. Below are the following shit I refuse to be brainwashed to do. What are yours?
1- STUPID GREETINGS- “Hi, how are you?”
==>Why even ask if you don’t care and you really don’t want any other answer than a quick “I’m fine?”
2- COFFEE- Coffee is HUGE in the States.
==>If you’re a working stiff and you DON’T like coffee or ever drink it, everyone labels you are “weird.” Just WTF is so wrong with not wanting to drink coffee, especially EVERY DAY like everyone else? If you drink coffee, there’s nothing wrong with that. I just don’t think it’s right to ostracize someone for NOT wanting to drink coffee.
3- HAPPY HOUR- Here in the states, happy hour is a big thing. It’s all every working stiff looks forward to.
==>People leave work and go straight to drinking, err I mean “Happy Hour.” I don’t drink. I have nothing against people who do. But isn’t it strange how the world thinks YOU’RE the one that’s strange when you don’t like Happy Hour? I do like dessert wine (don’t like beer or other wines), but why can’t idiots get it beyond their own stupid heads that if someone doesn’t like to go to happy hour, that there is something wrong with that person? Just because I don’t like do what YOU guys like doing doesn’t make me strange. I save money and YOU pay for way overpriced drinks lol.
4- PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE- What ever happened to “Separation of Church and State?” I am NOT religious (not against anyone who is) but WHY am I FORCED to stand and pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth and to a gawd I don’t believe in? I’m an atheist. Why should I be forced to pledge allegiance to YOUR gawd, every effing day? I am not opposed to people who want to do it. I just don’t think it’s right to FORCE everyone to do it. Same to the “Star Spangled Banner.” And btw, that’s a stupid song. I’m not against a national song, not at all, but it’s not even a good song. No, I am not unpatriotic. I just think there should be FREEDOM of choice. And pick a better song! Oh, this was back in the day. I’m not in K-12 anymore.
5- I’m sure there’s lots more. Heck, I KNOW there’s lots more. But too annoyed to remember the others lol. So I’ll leave you with these four for now.
==>Why is that when you don’t conform, you’re just labeled as weird/strange/an oddball? Why do people just auto assign that term and ostracize anyone that’s different? What the hell is wrong with humans? This happens in every country, in every culture, and pretty much since the dawn of time.
==> Mass Conformity = Sheeple

“Under God” wasn’t originally part of the Pledge of Allegiance, it was added in 1954. While it doesn’t violate The Establishment Clause, it really wasn’t a necessary addition either and makes some people feel alienated. Even some actions that aren’t a direct violation of The Establishment Clause can still imply there’s some sort of special relationship between a deity and a specific country. I think this is a bad idea, both for those who are religious and those who are not.
What concerns me here is that you said you have been forced to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. That is a very concerning situation. Under what circumstances is this happening to you?
In the US, in ALL public schools from K-12, you are forced to stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance, every day, with a hand over your heart. That feels like indoctrination to me. Like what they do in Communist countries.
Oh, and if you didn’t comply, you would get an “N” in Conduct on your report cards (N for Needs Improvement lol). And then I’d bring the report card home and get smacked for getting bad grades. Sigh…
Oh, in school. I misunderstod. LOL
They definitely should not give a student bad marks for that.
*misunderstood
Communist countries are hardly the only countries that do indoctrination. It is just more difficult to spot propaganda if you are in the target audience.
Right, it’s obvious now in 2017 that basically most, if not ALL, countries promote propaganda and indoctrination to control and manipulate their citizens. At least in Communist countries, you KNOW it’s occurring.
I drink coffee, although I certainly know people who don’t like it, but I never go out drinking.
buuuuut
the question is: is it real coffee?, or starbucks/coffeeshop coffee? also known as “desserts with a shot of coffee flavour”
I always drink coffee from various different coffee shops – there are a million of them around here. Some of them have really good high-quality coffee. I shamelessly admit, though, that I do like the sweet drinks that just have a shot of expresso in them. 🙂
Actually, to be honest, I don’t like coffee coffee, but one time I had free samples of those lattes or whatever you call them dessert drinks, but they were giving out free sample shots of those, and I actually did like those :P. I have a sweet tooth. But- I’d never pay like $6 for those. Yeesh. I wouldn’t mind it if they sold like a mini shot of that- like literally a tiny 1 or 2 oz shot. I just don’t feel like it’s good to drink like 8 or 12oz of that stuff.
Darkness, those drinks are too expensive. Mini-shots are a great idea. 🙂
Yeah, I’d totally buy a mini $2 latte shot. They’d never made ’em or sell ’em that cheap tho. Larger drinks = mo’ money.
any drink that isn’t just hot water +coffee beans is not coffee 😉
when you start to add 50-80% milk to “water” it down, foam, or shot of this and that, yoga mat chemicals or enough sugar/sweetener that would make Coke go “Hey! thats about enough right there” then one could start to wonder why even add the beans in the first place
2 week old sock, upright horseshoe, 3 hour bowel movement and all that, now that’s coffee, the stuff an 8yo kid takes a tiny sip of and sprouts right into puberty from or just gets ADHD from caffeine overload
did always frown a bit over eSpresso, damn cheap tiny cups… comn, serve that stuff in a real cup… robbin’ people blind..
I understand your irritation. Eventually you will figure out why the world is this way. Now, get off my lawn!
LOL oddly enough, I did make a comment on YouTube about a lawn yesterday (some idiot cop shot a 13yo kid because he didn’t like them WALKING on his lawn). Smh.
did always find the US style indoctrination a bit odd, (even more so after the whole debacle with penalties for people not standing during the pledge/anthem and “sitting” out lol)
having pledge in school or even “mandatory” morning assembly with either pledge or national anthem seemed so weird in a civilized liberty democracy society, and i laughed my arse off when i saw the “side by side” resemblance between US and North Korea in some (maybe semi satirical) article, since for some western countries it’s just not the norm to go so full on board with the propaganda forced patriotism indoctrination akin to some totalitarian states
but then again, being a “warring” nation, a war style anthem might be just the fitting tune for you guys, personally i think Whitney houston made it sound beautiful despite the lyrical content
and for the happy hour and coffeeshop thingy, well blame capitalism and well managed marketing making people convinced it’s “the right thing to spend and wrong if you dont”, in other places people would be labeled alcoholics drinking that much/often ;), you could just “hide” and order tea in the coffeeshops instead (assume some of them at least serve that too over there)
and platitudes and niceties and stupid meaningless greetings we can probably never get rid off, how else would people assert their indifference or use it as an initial status marker to get arse kissed or suck up to, class systems is well and thriving still
Glad you’re feeling better, Snorly.
Hi Witt 🙂
haven’t slept in days, so just currently riding that “overtired” state of the the sleep deprived “high”, excitedly waiting to reach the point where everything seems to slow down in zombie slowmo and body eventually crashes from exhaustion
this ADHD super heightened hyped “someone just dosed me with 3months worth of caffeine intake and sugar” is getting on my nerves + my eyes are dry and sore from being opened so wide and lack of blinking
yay
– exactly, it’s nothing but indoctrination and propaganda and brainwashing. and idiots don’t even realize it, even when you bring it up and tell them. smh, humans.
– yeah, i see that they do have token tea items in these coffeeshops, but that’s like ordering a salad at a steakhouse. i’ll pass. especially since they’re like $5 for 99% hot water. nah, i’ll make my own tea at home, for 18c 😛
i’m a major cheapskate (beyond that of necessity) in some aspects, so why would i pay such a steep price for coffee that has more sugar, chemicals and additives (serious some of that shit is downright scary), than soda and fast food meals combined when i can make it at home, to taste, cheaper, better (and healthier if one is fussy about that sugar/chem stuff),
though i do suck at preparing a cup of coffee for others since besides my mother, few like that 2week old sock horseshoe black tar stuff 😀
I can relate to most of this.
I don’t have a problem saying “Hi, how are you?” to a cashier or whoever, but I’ve always had a problem making small talk with people I don’t like who I know don’t like me either. Or not addressing the elephant in the room to “keep the peace.”
Most people are too obsessed with keeping up some appearance that the 10 year old version of them would have laughed at.
Sorry, got completely off-topic. Is there any way to edit/delete comments?
