I’m starting to believe my diagnosed illnesses are treatment resistant. 3 years of medication after medication, and therapy, and one very shitty stay in the psych ward. I’m seriously debating ECT. Has anyone tried it?
I have tried it. Let me emphasize that Ect not going to change your life situation. It only balances the chemicals in your head were the meds have failed. And plus it could be temporary for some people. There’s a chance your depression will come back. I knew a guy who still killed himself after his Ect treatment. It’s not a 100% success rate
That’s the thing, I need something to balance my head out or I’m never going to be able to truly move forward. I’ve gotten further than where I was, but now I’ve hit a wall. There’s always a risk. Though I have nothing to lose.
I’m sorry about that guy. Hopefully he found the peace he needed.
Then I guess give it a shot. It might work for you. Doctors tend to do it if everything else fails.
Do you live in States or do you live in a country with universal health care?
I live in the states. I can get it, it’s just a matter of, “will it be worth getting readmitted to the hospital for it”
I have to at least pray for those less fortunate with accessibility to mental health care. Such a stigma attached.
I’m at the end of my rope, and desperate, for anything really, to help stable my mind. Yet I would like to stop fighting and just end it. So exhausted.
Talk you your doctor about it first he probably won’t readmit you. I did mine in outpatient. If the psych ward is far away from you then Dr will probably readmit you. But you can do it in outpatient as along as you have someone to drive you home.
And the procedure is quite expensive as well. I had to stop mine early cause I didn’t enough money to move on with the treatment
Once I meet my new therapist tomorrow I’ll run it by her. The place I’d get it done is like 20 minutes away, but they’d probably re admit me for different reasons.
They mentioned ECT to me recently, though it wouldn’t be until I’d tried a few more treatments. There are some others I’d rather try first (stimulants, ketamine etc) if possible. Just make sure you know about the possible side effects of ECT, as quite a lot of people seem to experience them. In my country it’s usually only used as a last shot, and I’d try to exhaust other available treatments first given the risks. The person who mentioned it to me said he’s seen it have no effect on some people and work miracles on others, so you never know if you’ll be one of the lucky ones. (:
I’ve never heard of those treatments. I do wish you luck though.
Yeah I know at least one of the side effects of ECT is short term memory loss… not too worried about that though, my memory is shot to begin with anyway.
If you go through with it eventually, I really hope it works out for you. I hate seeing so many others on here suffering. Thank you for your comment 🙂

->So sad that this is a fair question.
