Do you have a shopping excess? Not necessarily an addiction, but going overboard sometimes. Snorly posted about the itch to buy hundreds of games, many he’ll never play. Sadlife has posted about the hundreds of anime figurines he has (I’m amazed at how you guys can keep track of how many figurines and games you have).
And I, well, I buy a lot of clothes (mostly on sale/clearance/discount), but many I’ll probably never wear. I don’t get a chance to wear ’em cuz I never go out nowadays, but the shopping excess continues. I don’t NEED to buy 10 pairs of underwear for $30 just now, but…it’s a good deal and idk. I hate buying things at full price, and lots of times I buy things just cuz they’re on sale/clearance/discount and is a great buy. It’s more than I need, and especially with the clothes, more than I’ll realistically wear. Idk, I have a weakness for discount shopping. It’s my Kryptonite. It’s hard passing up a great sale.

I just bought a $22.99 red dress on sale for $6.90. Will I wear it out? Prolly not. Too eye-catching. I usually stick to black and darks and pants as I don’t like to attract attention. But…it’s pretty. O_o
It’s like sale! deal! on one side. And guilt on the other side.
Do you have a shopping excess? Could be anything, discount shopping, etc. I feel better knowing others are doing the same. Ease my guilt. 😛

I’ve not bought clothes for a long time, used to be quite dapper actually, but as Doc Brown said in BTTF “Roads where were going we don’t need roads” “Clothes where were going we don’t need clothes”
Yeah guys generally don’t buy a whole lot of clothes.
like, right now the spring sale has started on GoG, and i expect in a couple of weeks or something it will eventually happen on Steam too..
and i’m trying really really hard to not indulge since i just bought like 8-10 games or so in 1 transaction last week (have i played any? nooooope)
games are just my weakness, and the insane discount on what is a guaranteed value product is just hard to pass up some times
where as on stuff like food, clothes, electronics or even a car, i know the value isn’t exactly the same ( in my warped head’s reasoning there is a difference between a product that has a known X price production cost + use/intrinsic/subjective value, vs a pair of pants or phone they “want you to think” has a certain value+cost when in fact it’s usually a fraction of it thus the 100$ 50% discount tag is just BS)
i’m just glad i don’t have the issue with clothes in particular ‘cos i know of people that have bankrupted themselves that way (then again, buying a complete new outfit like everyday because “i don’t wash clothes” is kinda stupid over the line to me and their own fault completely)
I buy a lot of wigs whenever I can. I’ll probably wear them a day or two and never make something “useful” with them but yeah, I understand the feeling
wigs? that sounds like fun 😛
I don’t need wigs. I’ve still got a full head of head of hair. Going a bit grey now actually though..
I do. I wish I didn’t cause I’m always broke because of it l and I’m in debt becaus of it. If it’s Harry Potter I buy it. Shopkins(google it) they’re ridiculous and for kids buf i own hundreds. Books so many. Video games, shoes, my excuse for shoes is I have giant feet cause I’m so tall so when I find a pair in my size I buy it cause there’s only one in my size. purses. I feel like an idiot for it tho cause I use one purse I do wear a lot of my tennis shoes cause I like to match. But my boots eh I wear some but stick to the black pairs cause that’s what I wear. I own a lot of dresses but I’m like you and don’t want the attention so I don’t wear them out. I know when I’m shopping I’m doing it cause I’m bored or depressed but that doesn’t stop me, I even find serenity in grocery shopping.
I don’t buy anything I don’t need and my bank account is pretty healthy because of it. But I do have temptations every time I go on steam. But I’m forcing myself to not buy anything. I tell myself the new mass effect is coming out and you can buy that.
I Own Nothing
I need, realistically, a little over 200 things. The why is more interesting than the what:
As soon as I left the nest of the pterodactyl that hatched me I knew I would be a homo sap on the move. The first thing to go was several hundred sci-fi books, some carved on stone tablets, which I acquired as a teenager. Later on, numerous people in my family mysteriously died and most all the furniture I inherited went to whatever I was dating at the time. Lastly but not leastly, just about every shred of clothing I owned went to Goodwill when I hit I my 75 lbs lost milestone.
I am slowly approaching the 200 item goal that other “de-possessioners” strive for, however, I don’t think I’ll quite make it. Regardless, I have a wonderful sense of freedom not being weighed down by random crap. As a bonus, in the event the place I’m staying catches on fire, which happens all too often to me, I know exactly where my box of critical papers and irreplaceable pimentos is.
I used to buy lots of books and DVDs. In the past five years though I’ve cut down on spending, having realized that “stuff” is an anchor that was holding me down (like SeeSmith noted). I still have a few boxes I’m not currently willing to part with. Clothes I don’t have a problem with. I go through clothing every six months or so where I throw out what I don’t need.
Nowadays I rent movies much more often than buying them (I also recently acquired a Netflix account), and I rarely read books, but when I do it’s generally in electronic form on my phone. My past self would have hated me for that considering how strongly I used to be against the idea of e-books. Oh well. Times change.
I spend my money largely on practical things now like food, alcohol, transportation, and $300/night hotel rooms.
$300/night hotel rooms? 😛
i’m right with you _darkness
300$/night hotel room as “practical” things??
i mean, i know i’m a poor and a very big cheap bastard but common, thats more than half my monthly rent! 😉
I try to stick with the $45/night hotel rooms. Sure, no room service, but a little advanced planning takes care of that.
On the other hand, NEVER pay $45 for a hotel room in NYC, you will wake up missing a kidney.
Haha, I was being sarcastic. In some cities during tourist season, $300/night is considered “cheap,” if you want a 3-star hotel. (Yep, not even 4-star.)
“I just bought a $22.99 red dress on sale for $6.90”
Not sure why I thought you assumed you’re a guy :/
Oops, I meant “Not sure why I assumed you’re a guy” 😀
I assumed the same till the red dress comment. But I am curator see said dress I’ll share my coral one that wasn’t cheap but the cardigan I wear with it was usually 130 I got it for 10 yay sales and the panties I’m usually like a kid in a candy store when it comes to on sale panties but I have a weird habit….. I cut off at least 2 pairs of panties a week idk why I just get irritated and it makes me cut them off I’ve done it for years
you cut up your panties every week? O_o Hope you only cut up the cheap ones, cuz girl panties can be expensive af. Although…I suppose cutting up panties is better than cutting up oneself…so…keep on at it??
wanted85 – 😀
well when I’m having a horrible day I also cut myself but I hate panties I hate that I have to wear them but I also love them it’s truly a love hate relationship. and when I get irritated I pull my panty scissors out and cut them off. And ugh I wish I knew where to find cheap panties. First time I did it was after a packers game loss I was so mad that I was like effff all things these panties are comin off I then found out that it’s a stress relief for me
Damn, how much do you spend on undies? If you cut up 2 a week, it must be kind of an expensive habit. Though admittedly, it’s better than say, a smoking habit.
am i the only one fascinated by how a conversation on a suicide site turned into 2 girls talking about underpants
part of me feels like back at high school sitting in the back row listening in on the girl’s secret chats 😛
It’s approximately 8 a month some weeks I only cut off one but I typically spend $40-50 a month on panties it’s ridiculous but I can’t stop myself. It’s a weird habit that I should probably stop but probably won’t and I smoke too….. I spend entirely to much money and always wonder why I’m broke with how often I work. But I suppose I’m starting to realize where all my money goes. Stupid shit that’s slowly killing
@_darkness, I also thought you were a guy. This is why, even though it’s a part of who we are as imperfect people, I try not to assume anything, I just straight up ask…
Anyways, it sounds like you at least know how to bargain shop. Wish I knew how to do that…
i could swear there was clues sprinkled across the previous posts about the girlyness of _darkness, or maybe that’s was just my imaginations, placing the people on SP in various little dress up boxes “you get a hat”, “you get red hair”, “you get the floral dress”, “you get the moustahce”, “you get boobs”, “you get the crazy cat-lady-covered-in-dozen kitties-outfit”, “you get pants with suspenders”, “you get the kawai getup”, “and you get the long beard loincloth and walking stick”
Wish I knew how to make boatloads of money (legally and realistically) 😛
_darkness!!!
idea!
since you did it with your other purchase ( t-shirt if i recall) do the same with the dress, lay it out, snap a pic of it, instagram it/share it”#BoughtButNeverWorn”/add it to this post, that way the dress will have served some sense of purpose, and validated the expense of treating yourself to buying it (somehow 😉 )
that tshirt i will wear. dresses i don’t wear so much.
yea i completely get that, i mostly wear t-shirts, rarely even an actual real shirt,
and haven’t worn a dress in ages (ahh to be young and silly again)
I thought Snorlax’s only need fur? 😛
oh we don’t “need” fur, we just automatically supply our own ( in abundance i might ad)
wearing shorts and t-shirts is merely as a sort of comfy and social bling ( i mean come on, a teddy in shorts, when is that not just awesome, or a t-shirt -pooh bear much?)
and imagine a giant scruffy Snorlax bear thingy in a dress, now wouldn’t that be a wondrous hilarious sight to behold chasing down civilians on the street in a devil induced red frenzy?
I think I buy food a bit too often. Maybe I have an eating disorder, no clue… I put down too much money on restaurant food.. I can’t cook for the life of me and I guess part of me feels like I don’t deserve food unless I use my own money to get it? Not entirely sure.
Can’t say I’ve spent as much money as I used to while I was in the states… but at least before I quit my jobs I was making some cash…
I used to buy a lot of amazon books, and a couple videogames here and there, but I used to buy so much food…. it stopped for a while and I was losing weight and everything, but I’m back at it it seems…
Fleshlights. I only ever use them to once, then toss ’em in a cupboard.
