So, I’ve been able to get off some of my more horrendous meds, because someone recommended that I try probiotics. He told me that they are starting to look at depression differently from a scientific point of view and they are seeing actual cures from depression using probiotics. Not saying this will work for everyone, but for me it was worth trying and so far it has worked. The studies are not all finished yet to back up the claims, but they are finding incredible things happening to people – good things. Certain probiotics are better than others for anxiety and depression so its best to take one with a large number of different strains. Also, only buy the kind that needs refrigeration – they degrade otherwise.
I just thought I’d share this because I know that if someone else had the mess of a life I did and was finding something that was working, I’d want to know about it, so that I could try it too. For what its worth –

Very interesting—thanks for sharing. I will have to check this out.
What’s the brand / name of product you take? There’s lots of probiotics out there and some work better / worse than others.
or a link to it would be cool
They help me a lot. It seems the more strains the product has , the better.
Sorry – I forgot I posted this –
The brand I take is Renew LIfe Ultimate Floral. I take the Critical Care version – which has 50 billion cultures (on the label) and 10 different strains.
As a1957 stated – the more strains the better.
My contact told me about the studies currently underway testing the efficacy of probiotics on anxiety and depression which is quite the discovery – it was a ‘side effect’ that was noticed by people taking the capsules for various digestive issues.
I guess the results were too strong and consistent to ignore – so they have actually started clinical tests – that’s why there are currently very few available – nobody intended probiotics to be a treatment for these things it just happened.
They call the stomach or digestive system ‘the 2nd brain’ There are a lot of books and articles on the topic if you would like to understand the WHY.
When you think about it, it makes so much sense AND as to why they can’t ‘fix’ depression et al with brain altering medications – it seems in fact that depression is NOT as brain related as was originally thought.
Forgot to say – that I have been able to get off of both
Elavil and Seroquel (high dose) due to going on probiotics – i was in a constant fog especially on the Seroquel and being off of them feels so much better – I never EVER thought I’d come off any of my meds.
Still take Effexor and a low dose of clonazepam daily – but I will probably try to come off those too after the summer is over.
I’m just glad I no longer feel like a zombie
