“Maybe suicide is the answer”. Uh, no. Better stated as “Maybe suicide is my answer”.
As for hotlines, I suppose it depends upon the person and the reason for the call.
You never know until you try. As with everything else, there are variables. But if you feel like you need to talk to a person I would encourage you to call.
Holy crap, never again. I called the hotline once when I was feeling a little down. Not severely depressed or suicidal. But after that phone call, it made me want to kill myself. Not even kidding. I will never call 273-TALK ever again.
I called them once and they sucked. The lady was just saying things like”yeah, uhuh, oh, mhm, really?, do you need help?”. I felt like they were begging for me to just die already. I looked into it and apperantly they have restrictions on what they’re allowed to say. They can’t offer you any therapeutic advice. I guess even mental help has a price tag these days. How is one supposed to receive this help when their minds are messed up?!? Many people can’t function properly when they’re feeling suicidal and depressed. When you feel this way you can’t work right, when you can’t work right you get fired, when you get fired you can’t make money and when you can’t make money then you can’t afford “help”. It’s kinda messed up.
Some day I’m gonna become a therapist for people with mental disorders like these. I’ll do it for free and with love for humanity. I won’t be a “certified” therapist(empath) but my passion and care will make up for that.
i phoned one time and the girl at the other end said to kill myself, so it’s like a lottery it may help, do nothing or just make it worse, it made me worse, highly unreliable
i think it’s better to talk here, you will have more friends who listens

Maybe it works for other people, not trying to discourage others from dialing in. This was just my experience.
