Did you know Garfield was in fact a cynical cash grab on behalf of it’s creator? well now you do, he was an ad man and figured out that he could create a character people relate to by making it a cat who hates mondays.
On an only slightly more cheerful note, there’s a song called “I don’t like Mondays” that was released by the band Boomtown Rats. It tells the story of a young girl who decided to walk into her former school and did a mass shooting. When asked why she did what she did, she said; “I don’t like Mondays, I wanna shoot the whole day down” It’s a true story, and because of writing a song about it Bob Geldof became a household name, and went on to be sickening in his attempts to raise money for charity.
anyway, I told that whole story so I could share some lyrics that still get a chuckle from me;
And school’s out early and soon we be learning
And the lesson today is how to die And then the bullhorn crackles and the captain tackles With the problems and the hows and whys And he can see no reasons ‘Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to die, die, oh oh oh?What reason do you need to die indeed. If I ever end up doing it myself, part of why has got to be Mondays. I don’t like them, and I want to shoot the whole day down.
My problem with Mondays is that it is when I switch the little switch in my brain and try to make my life mean something again. I take weekends off you see. Saturday and Sunday, I allow life to be meaningless, because from Monday to Friday I’m trying as hard as I can.
Only when I switched it this morning, I felt overwhelmed by the task. I don’t think it can be done, even in a million Monday-Fridays. So what now? Do I keep lying to people that I think I can turn this doomed ship around? I guess so
one more lyric to leave you with;
And daddy doesn’t understand it
He always said she was good as gold And he can see no reasons ‘Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to be shown?There are no reasons, what reason do you need to be shown? Sometimes something just hurts, and there’s no profit in trying to explain it to people who don’t even know what pain is.

Weird, I must’ve listened to that song a hundred times and never knew it was about a school shooting. In my mind I always thought it was about the mechanical maid in The Jetsons lol. The “silicon chip inside her head got switched to overload” and she went haywire trashing the Jetsons’s apartment or something.
On that note there’s also the Pearl Jam song “Jeremy” about a school shooting but they wrote it implying a suicide. The problem is, true story, some dumbfuck kid thought it was endorsing school shootings so he actually shot up a classroom and killed a few kids. Ironically Pearl Jam has always been about gun control (“Glorified version of a pellet gun”) but I guess people will always hear what they want to hear.
Back on the subject of shitty Mondays, yeah I’m with you on that. Even though I now work a flex schedule with no distinction between weekdays/ends, I can still feel it in the air. Mondays are the days when the world becomes a bit crueler than the day before. I wonder what day most suicides fall on.
“…and went on to be sickening in his attempts to raise money for charity.” huh? was that a bad thing?
The way he does it seems to bug some people, moreso at the time than now. I think the issue was the guy had a huge ego, and even charity work was just another self promotion.
ugh i hate ppl who pretend to be nice/good but secretly evil/selfish/self-serving
Personally,
I don’t like Mondays.
I don’t like Tuesdays.
