Braindamage is right… The way my brain works would ruin the perfect character real fast. That’s why I associate with flawed characters, those are the only ones that feel real to me. And they always have tragic endings.
If I had to pick one I might go with the love interest of Amelie because it would be awesome if someone cared about me that much. At the same time he’s just a minor character so we don’t know how fucked up he might be lol
Never saw Amelie but what if he was fucked up BUT he did find his love interest and someone that cared that much about him. Wouldn’t it still be better than now? Like still a net gain from your current life? (I assume you haven’t found that person)
Yup that’s my takeaway from the movie. It’s basically an updated Pollyanna story, a girl who does everything to make everyone happy around her. And the idea is that she fixes broken people. I really recommend it, it’s one of the few feel good movies that actually works on me.
I totally agree with what you said, as damaged as we are if the right person comes along things will get better. Maybe not happily ever after but better. Its funny though, as nice as it is to hope for that, it hurts when it doesn’t happen so it’s also good to keep expectations low. Unless maybe life is just about fooling yourself til the day you die…
SNL back in the day had a “Lowered Expectations” skit they used to do. Funny stuff. You should check it out.

->How many of those people actually exist?
Nothing against the movie here (not attacking the movie in any way), IRL there’s A LOT of ppl who PRETEND to be like that, but they’re actually wolves in sheep clothing. I’ve known several ppl like that, they present this image to the world that they’re SO wonderful and kind and loving and always helping other ppl, and blah blah blah when meanwhile, they’re really sharks looking to take advantage. They only appear to be Pollyanna so they can manipulate people. They’re evil bc they can pretend and hide their true self and true motivations so well. Like narcissists or dark empaths.

idk man, the older i get, the less hope i have that i’ll find someone. also, there’s the “leftover” theory. that the ones “left over” are the ones no one wants, like all the good ones DO get snatched up pretty quickly, so all that’s left are the not so good ones. So that’s our available pool. Not very good odds at this point. 🙁

i mean, i fall in that “leftover” category now. My dumb ass COULD have been with a great guy (my last ex) but I broke up with him over a decade ago, and haven’t been able to find a good guy since. Now, I am older, sicker, more depressed, and a lot MORE bad stuff has happened to me since.
I mean, I guess everyone on SP is considered an “undesirable”(sorry folks). But when you’re constantly depressed, you’re 1- not great to be around 2- you’re not as effective or productive as you should be 3- and lots more things but too lazy to think or type it all out…

Harris. A mentor to the coolest kids and takes care of magical beasts. Gets into mischief sometimes and doesn’t have to fight off evil forces as often. A Chill life. Amelie was a cute movie. Her love interest was so clueless it hurt.
I’d pick the teacher from Assasination Classroom, he gets to live his best life, helping students, and he’s going to die, so he knows life won’t have too much more time to suck
Oh, and he can travel at Mach 20 and only be killed by a specially designed plastic
a few seasons, I just finished, wondering how long before I begin it anew.

I don’t feel like I could actually have that life because I feel like when I become the character just because its me its all going to fall apart.
