They’ve gone the way of the cavemen. Gone. Very few “good” ppl left in this world. Everyone is selfish and most are uncaring these days. This has been my rant for years, and I KEEP getting told by everyone “there’s good ppl in this world, you just have to find them!” If we have to go “looking” for them, that means there aren’t many of them left! -_-
Burnt out, mostly. I like to think I was one of them. but it was sell out or burn out, and I burnt out. Now I mostly look after family, and anyone that asks for my help. Can’t be proactive anymore. It’s been a year and half since I burnt out, and there’s no road to recovery.
a lot of it has to do with the caring professions, LPCs, Social Workers, Teachers, Administrators in those fields. There’s been a shortage for awhile, and the amount of people who can keep their health and do it are shrinking. We just aren’t worth as much as a programmer, a banker, an accountant, new buildings, advertisements, modernizing, etc etc etc. You can say we’re worth more, but if you could get someone in control of budgets to say it, that would be swell.
I got really sick of “We can’t do better”, and this was for children, the most vulnerable people, but “That’s all we can do”….. someone has to stand for better, for chronic illness for one. Someone giving a damn about women and children would be nice too. Maybe house the homeless…. Finland solved homelessness, and has the smallest prison population in the world. Really simple how they did it; data driven decisions and removing the profit motive from increasing the suffering of others.
I used to provide assistance for those in need many hours of the week . Me and a small army. It has been said it takes 6 care takers to care for one in need. My mind and body can no longer support more than a fraction of what i once did. I could never do enough. I could never completely meet the needs. What I gave was often mismanaged. There was never enough of us supporters to go around, personally or corporately. Because recovery from whatever it was was rare, the needs just about never ended for the individuals in need. I do not regret a single moment or deed. I feel I got back more than I ever gave. There were some excellent outcomes and I am glad I had a part in them. I also acknowledge people helped me a few times in ways that mattered so much. It is still hard to imagine all of the above going on while I was often in so much mental pain I wanted to put a hole in my brain.
Some of us are still around, but we’ve become jaded and angry at those who have taken advantage of us and then treated us like dirt when they no longer needed our help.
So now we’ve become selective about who we choose to help, generally those who deserve it and will be grateful, rather than taking us for granted.
I do what I can for those I care about in my little circle and maybe some strangers who might need a little help but many of us have our own problems and struggles.
So if you need greater assistance, then you’d best off with paid professionals like nurses, social workers and so on.
As for people in your life, it’s really a mixed bag…like I’m fortunate that I have a few friends/family members that help out in some basic ways…but people can only do so much. Ultimately we have to look after ourselves as much as possible.
