That’s me. Frank fucking Grimes.

“Frank Grimes isn’t really a bad person, and that’s the problem. He has worked hard his entire depressing life and feels like he deserves more, especially when he meets his moronic new co-worker Homer after getting a job at Springfield power plant. Franks’s jealousy of Homer’s large house, beautiful family and amazing adventures is what sends the hateful feller into an early grave. There is a lesson for us all there. Not sure what that lesson is but it must be something.”

“Homer had a comfortable life, a polite family, an adorable baby, a genius daughter, a beautiful wife, a son who owned a factory (at the time), a dream home, two cars, could afford lobster for dinner, won a Grammy, toured with the Smashing Pumpkins, was friends with Gerald Ford and had even been an astronaut. In comparison, Grimes had to struggle for everything all his life, was working a second job at a foundry, and yet all he had to show for it was his briefcase, his haircut and a one-room apartment wedged between two bowling alleys (the latter of which impressed Homer). He declared Homer a “total fraud” who leeched off hard-working people like himself, being undeservingly rewarded for a lifetime of sloth and ignorance while he himself had few material possessions. “

Frank Grimes really was a normal single man just trying to make it in life. In the simpsons, it’s def a curse. It’s odd because it was his jealousy that killed him, and yet, Homer found something that Grimes had that he didn’t and could appreciate that without resorting . There’s a lot of nuance and perspective with these things.
There are lots of competitive people in this world, that always push for more, to make more and more money, etc. That doesn’t really amount to happiness though. And yet, not everyone can work their dream jobs or luck out monetarily and what not, simply because we need the fast food workers and garbage haulers to keep society running. Frank was cursed to be competitive in the wrong ways it seems. He was missing some contentment maybe. A lot of people would want what Frank had, honestly.
It’s an odd thing to thing about. There are so many people that wish they had a life like that. Makes me hate how messed up my brain is sometimes.
