Why “life is so wonderful”?
Wonderful for WHO?
Just bc YOU have a great life doesn’t mean life is great or wonderful for someone else.
People just can’t see anything beyond themselves.
Selfish idiots.
(btw, this is post is about OTHER ppl constantly telling me how “life is so wonderful” whenever I tell them how depressed I am or how hard my life is. they always exclaim how wonderful life is, and I’m like, yeah, for who, YOU?)

something we used to say joking/not joking in the Psychology program; the secret to happiness has already been discovered, it’s low expectations. Because we got asked that so much by non Psych majors, how to be happy.
It’s the worst thing about the US, the expectations people have living here. I know that I grew up believing that if you worked hard 40 hours a week 9-5 you’d be okay….. and I’m still not sure I’ve gotten over that.
Then I watch people in third world countries doing horrible deadly jobs, and they’re just so happy and zen about the whole thing. There are widows in Indonesia who pan for metals in the shipyard, and they’re just okay with that, even though it kills most of them. Or the people who make their living scraping through a landfill, or building old fashioned limestone kilns…. that’s the latest one and it really got me, because those people go blind eventually.
so I’m trying to find a rational middle ground between those two
No, those ppl are NOT “okay” with it. When they’re interviewed on TV, 1- they want to look good, so they’re not going to say how shitty their life is, especially in Asian countries bc it’s not customary to air how shitty your life is on TV/in pubic 2- you realize that it’s HEAVILY edited 3- those who say how awful it is aren’t going to be featured on the shows 4- the translations are often not accurate.
It’s similar to those late night TV shows who ask pedestrians questions like “which countries border the US?” and they keep asking enough ppl till they encounter someone that says shit like “Alaska” or “India” and THOSE are the ppl who are featured in the reel, not the 95% that correctly say “Canada and the US” (although…Americans are really that dumb so maybe it’s more like 70%). But anyhow, they’re heavily edited to show what the show wants to show.
These ppl interviewed on TV are the same way. Trust me, dirt poor ppl aren’t “happy and zen” with it. Much of it is propaganda, to make us believe “money doesn’t bring us happiness.” And again, a LOT of the translations are simply NOT accurate. As someone who understands another language, the subtitles are often WAY off.
Maybe it’s a loaded question on a site like SP….but, is there something in this life you find wonderful? If so, what is it? If not, what keeps you here?
no, i wasn’t asking the question. it was in response to non-depressed well-to-do ppl constantly telling me just how WONDERFUL life is. fucking annoying.
and no, i don’t find life ‘wonderful.’ i think this is hell on earth. half the world population literally lives in poverty. too tired to go into all the reasons why living as a human on earth is shit.
