I suppose the answer to “Why shouldn’t life be fair?” is the competitive aspect of evolution. If everyone’s satisfied and content, then there’s not much of a motivation to increase your power or dominate others. But if you have a constant craving for more, then it drives you to invent new weapons, seek out new opportunities etc. It gives you a competitive advantage. So such instincts are rewarded genetically and passed on.
Which doesn’t mean it always has to be that way. Who knows what kind of societies will be possible with future technology and enough self-understanding.
Yup, GREED is the answer as to why life isn’t fucking fair.

Yeah, it’s bc there’s douchebags (billionnaires) who are never satisfied with enough, and look to extract wealth/cheap labor from the poor and middle class, and so we get screwed. I’m so tired of getting screwed. Sigh…
Humans should just become extinct overnight. End all our suffering. The current system benefits the 1%, the next 30% live pretty good lives, and the bottom 70 live miserable fucking lives, eeking out a meager existence. I mean, give or take some %s, but that’s basically it. So BILLIONS have to suffer so the 1% can live like kings. Fuck them all. We should go back to guillotining the rich.
the future will be the same as it is today, and same as it has always been for hundreds of thousands of years- it doesn’t matter what technology we have- the rich 1% will steal all the wealth, and the bottom vast majority of ppl will live in poverty. it’s 50%-95% of the population in poverty depending on what era we lived in, but the masses are always poor and always living on the edge, so the wealthy can live in castles and mansions.
Hmmm, maybe. I think if the rich can fill all their labour needs through automation/robots, then the rest of us might either be uplifted or eliminated completely. Why risk leaving the poor around when they could start a revolution against you?
I suppose what might happen is that as more and more jobs become automated, the pressure grows for the wealth to be distributed more evenly. Maybe that happens and society becomes fairer, or maybe it’s successfully resisted and the now useless poor are finally just left to starve. But either way it might be the end of the class system as we know it.

—That’s a pipe dream- technology has advanced for thousands of years and we, the masses, are still slaves.
These ppl need cheap labour to produce their goods and run services for them. If we’re not used for cheap labour, then it’s for us to be their consumers- after all, they need schmucks to buy their goods.

–Yes and No. 1- a financial crash is coming, after the Nov election. And tons of ppl will be kicked out of their homes and ppl will starve. You’ll see it in the coming months. SO yes, more and more ppl will starve. but 2- they won’t let us ALL starve. No. You underestimate the rich’s psychopathy to use us poor masses as cannon fodder. Humans generate a tremendous amount of energy. We will likely be used as an energy source.
I think humans fundamentally crave equity, they just don’t know it. Children of the wealthy almost always blow it. There’s a lot of self loathing in growing up even somewhat well off, or at least there was for me. Two parent household, with divorces all around…… yeah, I felt like a freak.
So even with every advantage in education, I still struggle.
I’ve wanted to know what it felt like not to stand out, but I’ll never know. So I don’t think it can be fair. I don’t think anyone is happy, long term, everyone carries secret pain, or it’s coming for them.
So this happy life thing, everything going good? it’s an illusion, a myth. Fairy tails told to sell breakfast cereal. If you eat sugar you get fat, you don’t follow a magical cartoon character. Eventually you just end up eating high fiber mush anyway, enjoy the sugar while you can.

-nah, not everyone. i know many ppl who are happy or very happy with their lives. i think you’re just surrounded by the poor and depressed so you think this way. but the upper middle class ppl i know are all very fucking happy. genuinely happy. UGH. most are married, with kids, house, etc. some are unmarried. but they all have houses. the ones who rent are not happy.
who are are all the sad, lonely depressed mf’ers? poor ppl, working stiffs. i mean not ALL of the well to do are happy ofc, but all of the ones struggling financially sure aren’t happy.
oh, and some ppl genuinely have easy lives- had good, normal, loving upbringing by loving parents, good education, grew up in a nice neighborhood, now have good white collar jobs, no major issues, etc. and they’re doing JUST fucking fantastic. UGH.
yes, they had ALL the advantages of life, and unlike you, are basking in all the benefits of it.
what I meant by it is that it doesn’t do them good. That kind of shallow existence, lacking challenge, curtains closed to all the horrors that you and I know all too well is something worse than misery, it is a shallowness that is uglier still.
I get that you envy them. I had the chance to be it though. What I do may not be adviseable, but people find it admirable; I bend over and stick my hand in the dirt, examining it, describing it.
The dirt is the awfulness. Of course there are people who never touch it. Or at least get close to not. But staying clean is boring is the fundamental truth. For a young person, it’s awful, because young people want to be exciting. So they usually screw it up just for that.
Working for it is supposed to be the excitement, but our economy is so broken that’s just over. So now there’s just haves and have nots. To be a have is to be boring, and to be shameful. To be a have not is to be somewhat decent and respectable. No one is social climbing, the best you can do is to be where you were born. At least, where I’m at.
When you remove social mobility from the equation, things change a lot. Our whole American culture relies on the idea that anyone can occupy any position in the social structure, and that hasn’t been true in a decade.
So what is the upper middle class but mouthpieces for the very rich? People bought into a broken system. When I encounter them, I always want to know what their price was, because I suspect it was too low. Stuff’s expensive these days, we’re about to abolish the social safety net.
Was it worth it for the occasional trip to Disney World? That’s not a worthwhile life in my book. I watched my parents live that life for 18 years up close, they never seemed to get much value out of it. Three years of private school! Wow! My closest friend from private school ended up homeless….. and she spent her whole education there.
The money runs out eventually, because cash flow relies on somebody being a steady earner. That requires skill, something in decline. People only aquire skills because they have to. Who has to do anything anymore? Not THOSE people.
Pampered and priviledged, they’ll be useless the minute their connections stop getting them what they want. Maybe that day won’t come for a long time. It’ll come though, because most of them aren’t that smart.

–What in the world? Maybe it is to YOU, but to most “haves” they are not bored and they are not shameful. I know many haves, and trust me, they aren’t bored or shameful, not in the least.
And to most “have-nots,” who gives a shit if it’s looked at as “decent” or “respectable?” When you’re born into poverty, your life is hard af and you usually wind up in poor health due to your poverty. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass for it being looked at as “decent” or “respectable” to others. I’d rather have NOT had to suffer my entire life in poverty and poor health and everything that comes with it. I’d trade it in an instant to be a “bored” have than a “respectable” have-not.
It’s just like the bullshit drivel ppl say when you’ve told them what a hard life you’ve had and all the struggles you’ve had to endure- they all say shit like “adversity builds character,” or “at least you didn’t have a boring life.” Well fuck everyone who says that. I’d rather have a “boring” life than a life full of fucking shit and pain and abuse. And I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about having “character” or being seen by others as “having character.” You know what I’d rather have? I’d rather NOT have had a painful fucking life and growing up hungry. Or sick. Or being abused. Fuck “character.” And fuck “you have an interesting non-boring life.” I’d rather have a “boring” vanilla life, if I could have been born at least middle class to a loving family/loving parents.
You think it’s “boring” to be rich? Try being born into poverty and see how great that life is.
are there some wealthy ppl who are bored? sure. but i’d rather be wealthy and “bored” than poor and sick and constantly worrying about money and where i can live and if i can afford healthcare or if i can afford to get this and that treatment. or if i can afford to get these healthier apples or bananas that cost more than the ones sprayed with pesticides that are sprayed with pesticides that ultimately damage the health of the poor that can’t afford food that isn’t sprayed with crap.
Give me “bored” any day of the fucking week than this fucking shit I have to live with and deal with every miserable day of my fucking life. Take all the goddamn “character” you want.

but I talk about this shit a lot. When I do, I get some people being like “but they need that wealth. ” No one needs that shit. “I wouldn’t mind having that”………… see, but I mind them having it, because no one needs that shit.
Median price of a yacht is about 3 million. The price of a school lunch in this country after you pay all the people who make it happen the actual food cost is $1.35 So somewhere around 2.89 million school lunches, or a yacht…. which is going to return more value I wonder?!
Then I had this old man who’s social security got cut, AND we cut his food at the same time, wasn’t that nice of us? We were giving him 85 dollars. Imagine if we gave him what he needs, 100 bucks a week in this economy, 500 dollars a month you could feed 5000 old men for the cost of that stupid yacht. I remember a kind man with a beard got off a boat and fed 5000 people, said something about the meak inheriting the earth, some hippie in sandals.
So I don’t care if they’re happy. I don’t want them to be. They’re poison. I want them to drink of which that they produce, which can only be wastewater and bile. I want their noses in the dirt they leave behind.
But I’m not getting it, because I’m not a violent man. Apparently the only violent people want very different things than me. I want workers to get paid more….. nothing they do gets us any closer to that.
I want costs to reflect market desire not the ability of investors to manipulate legislatures. I want regulations to work for human beings.
I want a wealth limit and a misery limit, and both to be enforced. But who am I? Nobody in particular.
