I have nothing against dogs themselves, but I find it SO damn strange/sad that ppl care WAY more about 1 dog/cat/whatever cute pet, than they do about HUMAN lives. If ppl cared for other HUMANS the way they care for dogs/pets, we wouldn’t be in such a shitty, cold, callous world.
I know so many ppl who are so loving to dogs/animals but are such dicks and douches to other humans. Like, they all think they’re SUCH good people bc they love their pets or animals in general, but then 2s later, turn around and be hateful/cold/callous/uncaring to humans. Like at least admit you’re NOT a “wonderful” person.
Based on what I see- I think 1,000 human lives = 1 dog life
Hell, maybe even 10,000 human lives = 1 dog life…if they are poor human lives. Sigh… -_-

I wouldn’t be nearly as nice to people as I am without my animals. I don’t know that I value their lives any different. I can see the person you might mean, someone who doesn’t care about people at all, just the dog.
It’s kind of like people who decide to be huge jerks, “think of the children”, while everyone else’s kids don’t matter to them. It’s about thinking of THEIR kids.
My dog’s life is worth my life, that’s all it will ever be. I wouldn’t die for him, but he’s worth looking after, worth taking care of. He’s tied into my nervious system, when he’s happy I’m happy.
So I can just assume based on interactions with other dogs and their owners that this is pretty normal. People get closer with their dogs than almost anyone other than family.
This comes back to one of the essential truths about humans; they are tribal. They are loyal to those considered “in” the tribe and less trusting of those not in. A dog is evolved and adapted to attract that loyalty.
Everything horrible humans do to each other is because they don’t consider other humans part of their in group, it’s a known design flaw in the way we see the world. Because there are just people, and every person matters to someone.
I matter to my dog, it takes all kinds.
no, i’m not even referring to ppl who OWN dogs- i get ppl who are attached to to their OWN dogs- but 1- there are ppl who don’t have ANY pets who are super “wonderful” to pets but are douches to real humans, and 2- ppl who do own dogs but are super “loving” to ALL pets and shitty to ALL humans.
THESE are the ppl I’m talking about. These ppl value the lives of pets WAY MORE than they value the lives of humans. They value the pets/animals they have never even met over real life humans.
People like submissives, those they have full control over. Their “love” for animals is really their love of dominance. Have a wild animal in their home and see how many love him.
On side note, this is what parents’ love is too. Control over another soul. Animals are more honest in this area in that they leave their cubs once they’re old enough to sustain themselves, with no strings attached.
People love animals only bc animals can’t talk back O_o
People in America raise their animals like they were their own children, call them their children too, which I still don’t completely understand.
I get the attachment though, especially if you’ve had pets since you were a young kid or even a baby. Pets are members of the family in that regard.
Depending on the relationships a person has with other people, complexities and all, I figure people like the simplier relationships to their animals. You feed them, talk to them, pet them, play with them, and they don’t usually talk back or take any offense or misconstrue anything you do. They lick you back and keep you company.
Pets are important, but in a life or death scenario, I’d save the human (especially a family member) before the pet.
The unwritten social contract dictates that even if slighted, we all have to attempt to, bare minimum, tolerate one another. I just think that people, being the ones that breeded these animals into being our fluffy companions, like the simplier relationships we have with animals, so we treat them all the same. Some people value that above human interactions…
For this question, I think you have to understand the psyche of someone who despises humans so passionately. This hatred probably comes from a place of self-resentment, having been betrayed in the past, or general disgust with the cruel aspects of humanity. When people experience these feelings, it can make them bitter and cold towards all humans because they don’t think there’s anyone worth trusting or being kind to. That’s why they prefer the simplicity and purity of animals/pets. They think that a dog or cat they care for won’t betray them or be cruel, but a human might. So, while I agree that it’s not healthy to be so bitter, it’s just not that easy to care for humans when you’ve been hurt by them all your life. (Of course, there are cases when a person is just really narcissistic and doesn’t give a shit about others.)
I had to admit, I am awful then. And I don’t even like pets.
