I always liked Tom Jones, if only because he’s so darned silly. So when I ran into one of his songs in another language my initial reaction was one of outrage on behalf of Jones “how dare they rip off Tom Jones”, imagine my surprise to learn the tune was older and Tom Jones was ripping it off. However, the lyrics are those that he made famous, so he gets the credit for that.
The Italian version translates to “my eyes” and has nothing to do with helping yourself. It does sound nice though. Which do you guys prefer?
I also feel like telling my other Tom Jones story, relating to this song, What’s New Pussycat
It’s no secret to long time readers that I used to work with teenage sex offenders. One of my major duties was running shower time because I was on evening shift. They were supposed to have 5 minutes for a shower, because being sex offenders if they took longer…. they probably were getting up to mischief. My solution to timing them was that they had two playthroughs of What’s New Pussycat. Oh I had them hating this song.
Anyway I now get warm fuzzy feelings when I hear the song, because it was a good time in my life. I think it was long enough for a teenage boy to take a shower. I do wonder what my supervisor would have said if I had told him, but it never came up. I also wonder what happens to sex offenders now since that program no longer exists. I guess they don’t get reformed. They just go straight to prison or put back into society. It amazes me the cruelty that one man brought about by his greed.
I worked under a doctor when I was there and I tried to track him down last year and according to Google he’s still in the building. Perhaps that’s why they can’t sell the building.

I prefer the one by Tom in this case, I feel like the Italian version tries to modernize the instrumental part of things unsuccessfully in comparison, although I may just be quite biased towards the brass section of the former.
Social work wise you seem to have worked with all sorts of people, I didn’t necessarily realize how many circumstances it could apply to job wise. Probably shouldn’t be a shortage of roles then to take up but the job market and listings can be pretty all over the place, yeah…
