How many of us are stuck in a apt/neighborhood/city/state that we don’t want to be in due to finances? I think there’s many of us in that boat. Me, heartless, trulymindless, Soda (unless he was finally able to move out of that apt)- that’s at least 4. How many others?

In my case, financially I’m ok to move, and rents have gone down in general, though not for condos/TH’s-which is what I’m looking for…I guess cause they’re in short supply and still in demand.
I’ve just been busy with life and also exhausted from a lack of adequate sleep (because of where I live). It’s hard to do the move-but I’m determined to get out (fingers crossed) in a few months, certainly before winter.
Having at least two incomes really helps…we’ve struggled with one and it’s very difficult. For anyone who’s in a tough bind, I’d recommend doing anything it takes to get yourself in a better place…even if it means getting social assistance.
Your life and peace of mind are all that matters. You can’t progress in life if your basic needs (like getting good sleep) are not met.
Lucky you, how come rent prices are going down in CAN?
Supposedly, it’s going down in the US too and all the news (including online) reports the “good news” but really the rent has gone down by an avg of $15 since last year:
“The median asking rent price across the 50 largest metros slid to $1,691 in February, shedding $15 compared with the same time a year ago”
WOW- a big whopping effing $15 less- it’s so disingenuous to report “falling rent prices” when it’s only forking $15 less.
Rents have already been astronomical for DECADES, then came 2020 covid where EVERY fcking company used covid as an excuse to jack up rents, food, goods, everything. It’s been 5yrs since covid and life has never been more expensive. -_-
Companies like Blackstone and Statestreet are buying up all the residential homes and jacking up the prices. Regular ppl can’t compete with high cash offers so 90% of the housing is being bought up by corporations, not ppl. And it’s only getting worse as they’re buying up more and more, so fewer and fewer are left for regular homeowners to buy. This affects the rental market as well bc those bastards are jacking up the rents in the rental market.
Ya fortunately they have come down…though tbh I’ve seen it mostly for bsmt’s and they’re the worst places to rent.
Landlords lie through their teeth to get your to rent, they try jack up your rent, or they sell their house after a year or two, leaving you in the lurch or forcing you to move, after promising they wouldn’t sell for 5 years or more.
Also there are very weak protections for renters and little can be done to deal with them. So avoid basements like the plague unless you have no choice.
Hi/low rise apts tend to suck also so I avoid them in general…but I think they’ve come down as well.
I think it’s because a lot of recent immigrants from India and other places have started going back, because they realize Canada is way to expensive and there are very little to no job opportunities.
It was an absolutely retarded move by the Liberal govt…they brought in people without creating new living spaces for them, so everyone was competing for the already short supply for rent/housing.
That ofc lead to the skyrocketing prices here…but I’m glad they’re falling like a rock now…back to where they should’ve been if the morons in gov’t didn’t encourage mass immigration with no plan to handle it.
Ya that $15 is a total joke…$500 or more would be more reasonable. Corporations should be banned from buying up properties and forcing potential home buyers to become renters.
Something similar happened here…rich Chinese (money launderers) and other foreigners bought up condos/houses in prime locations like Vancouver and the Toronto/GTA…causing housing to become unafforable.
There are thousands of homes/condos sitting empty because people can’t afford them and these fokers are playing Monopoly with our lives don’t to sell them for less.
The Libtards finally figured out what was going on and tried to limit how much they could buy…but the horse already left the barn, by then.
Yet again it’s a rich mans/woman’s world. And the masses have to eek out a meager existence fighting over scraps.
The masses fighting for scraps is exactly what the rich want us to do. And dumb ppl- the masses- fall for it line and sinker- we bicker amongst ourselves over Left vs Right, or whatever stupid issues the rich made up to divide us- and it’s working like a charm.
Well in the US, there is no limit as to how much property or land or water rights a corporation can own. Bill Gates is buying up ALL the land with water in it, Blackrock and Statestreet are buying up all the residential houses and charging a forkton to renters. Oh yeah, even if in the small tiny chance you’re actually able to buy a house here- the land that it sits on is NOT yours. We are literally living in peasant times. Hell, the peasants in old Europe actually owned the land and farms I think, so we’re even worse off than they were.
I wish there were millions of people like you and I who could run for gov’t and fix this mess.
It’s really about having real power at the end of the day where you can eff over corporations like they do to ordinary people nowadays.
Some progress has been made. I recall in the old days companies would get away with polluting the environment and they’d bribe politicians…but nowadays they’re usually forced to clean up their messes.
While I oppose Communism, because you can end being like North Korea or China, I don’t see what other options are there for ordinary people to get a say in politics.
The people at the top/elites will never give up their money or power voluntarily. I mean I have other ideas that I couldn’t voice here. There are ways to make people do what you want…and maybe that is the loophole to this shit system we’re living under but it comes with its own dangers and problems.
If you know the right people to go after and manipulate, you might have a shot. They are also in charge of the military largely and even more dangerous is intelligence…they can make anyone disappear.
So if they see people trying to eff with their hegemony they could take people out.
I’m also getting too old for this shiit anyways…at the end of the day, without a very large mass movement and I mean millions of people who are well organized to take on govt, the masses are largely screwed.
All we have is unions to do some bidding for us, pushing companies to throw more pennies our way and think that’s a win, while they take in billions.
But has there ever been a time where the rich DIDN’T own the world and screw over the populace? I mean, the ONLY time America was “great” was from 1945-1980. 35 years of prosperity given to the boomers, and then the boomers pulled the ladder up after themselves and screwing all future generations. Aside from those 35 years, America has been shit for the avg person. Globally I’m sure it’s similar. It’s never a great time for the masses. The poor and what little middle class left has always had to eke out a living, while the rich just take power and steals everything.
I just don’t see the masses rising up. Americans are too stupid, too lazy, and too selfish to.
