I’m already a bit depressed about the new job, which isn’t good. I’m sure I’ll rally once I’m working. Money is quite an anti depressant. Also I get to be outdoors and driving, both of which I enjoy. There’s more to enjoy in the job, there are just philosophical and moral issues.
The gig is inspecting houses for insurance purposes and for the purpose of after a house is already in bank ownership/ mortgage default. I’ll be a contractor and the money is sort of decent. I still need to find out the hours.
The fact is I don’t work for anything but evil companies, so finding out that they are doing something like that out the gate, I’m relieved. I mean this is low level evil, the kind that makes the world go round. I have spent my life and will spend my life fighting such things, but sometimes you go against your own instincts. My rationale is this;
The entire thing is transactional, they need the inspection for their insurance claim or the property inspected because it is already in forclosure. I think of it a lot like grave digging; the coffin is already built, filled and ready to go in the ground. I’m not bringing the person back at this point. So wanting them back is a futile desire.
That’s how I justify working in a system I find demeaning, and in a process I know isn’t good for the people who’s lives had been where I go to inspect if it is a forclosure, but there’s nothing I can do.

Most of what you described isn’t caused by what your job does. It sounds like the housing supply is short, demand is high, and some people’s incomes are too low to afford a property in that area.
This would require an entirely different subversive mindset which you may not be up for, but if the company you work for is truly despicable you could always sabotage them while profiting from it.
Let your ingenuity take it from there. When I was a student I interned for, of all things, a fucking defense contractor. It was unbelievable the cloud of delusion each & every employee donned so that they could sleep at night. I went the other route and had some fun quietly sabotaging little things, collecting a paycheck, and sleeping like a baby.
I realize now that it’s all relative, and that especially in the local economy I work in right now there aren’t a lot of “clean” jobs I can go for.
Consider my next backup job, laying brick; there’s no way to prevent me from laying brick on a house, and that house being owned by a person who goes out and does awful things. Plus I’d almost certainly have to do commercial work that was really unethical and immoral.
I could go back and work in the medical system, that system is incredibly corrupt and awful.
Then there’s almost any government work, which is worst of all right now. I realized that a lot of people hard on their luck are having to reduce their morality to go work for ICE…… hearing about it I’ve even been tempted even though what they are doing is against everything I believe in, because they are forgiving student debt along with a $50,000 sign on bonus……
There certainly isn’t any money left in being a good person, I can tell you that as a report on the ground. I haven’t seen a job in a long time that I thought involved being kind or generous. You have to invent that job from scratch. You have to move to another state FAR away from Oklahoma and get somewhere Oklahoma Republicans have never even HEARD of to make that job happen.
Which is what I’m going to do. Oklahoma Republicans are Fucking morons and I thank whatever higher power there is, even a giant fucking spagetti monster that is the case every day that is the case. Oklahoma is going to become some kind of authoritarian test state, but I don’t give a fuck anymore.
That’s what royally sucks about life as a human. You can always solve your problems by selling out. Sell your morals, sell your political opinions, even your god. Sellouts get rewarded in life while those with integrity always suffer for it.
I’ve been reading about the ICE scam and it disgusts me beyond vomit. Apparently nobody remembers the Hitler Youth groups and all those civilian Nazi initiatives which were just a way to pay the population to join the party.
Sad thing is it worked. And it still works. Because humans have the moral integrity of pond scum. Wave some cash and see what humans are really like.
I don’t know the situation in Oklahoma but all red states seem to be heading for full authoritarianism. The dumb shits. The 21st century Republican party is pro-Russia, anti-Constitution, anti-freedom, pro-fascism, pro -Nazi. But nobody cares because ICE is hiring and you don’t need an education or any skills.

i agree with dying2die- sabotage them from the inside out if you can! you haven’t started there yet so you don’t feel that way- yet. Just wait till they mistreat you. Come a few months later, you’ll rethink this idea…
