The Dangers of Calling Suicide Hotlines

If someone is calling a suicide hotline, they are seeking help, whether consciously or subconsciously. They may have just reached the end of line and cannot turn their train around and are stuck in a sort of hopeless helplessness.

In these cases, I agree that there should be an intervention because they don’t have the strength or know how to help themselves.

A long time ago on a different suicide platform, a woman posted when, where, and how she was going to cause her own death.

A few months later she posted how the police intervened and she was committed. I am grateful someone cared enough about her to make that call on her behalf.

Whatever the end of her story, she knows someone cared enough about her to take that step for her. No one can take that away from her.

It is, of course, a horribly misguided notion to think that someone will intervene if you post on a suicide forum. We are, after all, not the most sound minded people on the planet.
