I’m talking about those ugly ass nets on the Golden Gate Bridge. After a decade of hype, the monstrosity was installed, padding the pockets of contractors and politicians alike, and all the sensationalistic clap-trap news rags were quick to conclude that “LIVES WERE SAVED”. But if you do a 7th grader’s research into the overall suicide rates in San Francisco there’s no fucking change.
It shouldn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out if you block one bridge, people will just walk down the street to the next. And if you block that one, they’ll walk to the nearest gun store, or train tracks, or cliff. When will dumbasses learn that you can’t fix suicide unless you fix what’s causing suicide?

Btw the last 2 caps show the cost per resident ~$234.29 which could’ve easily paid for 1-2 therapy sessions, or hell maybe just a weekend at a fancy hotel, which wouldn’t cure suicide either but at least it would provide a personal, individualized care plan. And remember that’s for each resident, healthy or not. If we limit the number to critical residents which would be less than 10% then we’re talking $2342.90 per person, or a luxury trip to some nice getaway location.
what a dumbass, impersonal and cruel idea. are those nets actually going to last? what else could be thrown in them? looks like they’re pretending to care and were willing to waste lots of money.
Exactly! “pretending to care”
I bet the politicians & council came under a lot of heat because of the bridge being such a visible reminder of suicide: it forces people to take notice. But instead of trying to address the actual problem of mental health, depression, poverty or whatever causes people to jump, they decide to install a bunch of nets and pat themselves on the back for “solving” it. But actual suicides haven’t decreased. They just moved elsewhere less visible.
Did anyone think that maybe they could’ve used that $205 million to set up a free mental counseling office at the bridge?
ok, why do a few nets cost $205M? NO ONE questions this?
Hell, it’d be cheaper to just hand everyone who wants to suicide a gun. Won’t that also solve your welfare issue? and your homelessness issue? and your drug addiction issues? and your housing issue? usually, the same person has all/most of these issues.
It’s bc no one ACTUALLY cares to prevent suicide. Only to SAY they’re doing something. To ACTUALLY fix suicide would mean that the rich would have to be less greedy, as 90% of suicides have something to do with the lack of money. So that’s never going to happen.
I think this kid is more effective than those $205M nets.

also, kid must be making BANK!!
That kid is awesome. And forreal THAT’s what might help if anything. I guarantee nobody’s gonna jump in front of a train while that kid is there. So what would it cost to hire 2 helpers, one at each end of the bridge, to just sorta greet people with a smile and ask if they’re doing ok?
Even if they pay helpers as high as $20/hr, 24 hours a day for 2 of them would cost the city less than $1000. And for $205 million that would go 561 YEARS.
You’re so right, it’s because the money pushers don’t want to cure mental health and certainly not poverty. To cure poverty would take away their power. So let’s put up some ugly ass nets, pay all the money to sleazy construction contractors who blow the budget on booze and ski trips, and call it a day.
that kid is charging $2/hr. i bet he started at $1/hr and realized he got SO much demand, and is now charging $2 lol.
i had seen another story on YT- i think it was a white kid- who did the same and charged $1. idk which kid was the first to do this (prolly 1 kid did it and other kids are like lemme get in on this lucrative business lol).
yeah, no one thought to put a LIVE caring human on the bridge instead of giant nets that cost $205M? hell, these nets dont even cost 1M
And you know what else is “dumber?” 3T to Israel, 30B to Ukraine, 40B to Argentina. How much to the American people? Well, we get to have a BOOT UP THE A$$. Let’s CUT food stamps, remove the ACA subsidy, etc, remove anything and everything that helps the masses.
EVERYTHING is a scam. EVERYTHING is a way for the rich to steal money from the middle class.
