I figure this is the best place to come & get advice for this sort of situation:
I just got my anti-depressants today (my first ever prescription) but I got it so late in the day that I couldn’t take any. Tomorrow I have my license test, and since my anti-depressant has the ability to really help my anxiety, I feel like I should take one before my test. However, I’ve never taken one, and it could have a negative effect, making me unable to drive.
Someone please give me some advice!!

What’s the name of your antidepressant and dosage?
There are so many variables here to consider..the medication, the dosage, and what you’ve been diagnosed with.
You may not experience anything for the first couple of weeks.
10 mg of Prozac
LOLOLOLOLOL it takes 2-3 weeks sometimes a month for them take effect. The first dose effects are usually all in your head XD take the pill maybe your brain will trick itself. One dose of 10mg of prozac won’t affect you. Thats like having 10mg of vitamin C and expecting your body to have an impenetrable immune system. Honestly once you are on it for a while you will see a slight difference. If not up the dose doc lol trust me I’ve been on a lot of stuff <.<….well remember your driving rules, you practiced, its not hard, concentrate on the road and the vehicles around you. Listen to the instructors directions. Check your mirrors. Luck.
Some anti depressents have tranquilizer properties but I dont think prozac is one of them, even if it is I am on the highest dose available of one that is .. Mirtazapine .. and sedation wise it does absolutely nothing! so you should be fine! .. Anti depresents arent like extasy by the way, Unfortunately! lol
It *usually* takes several weeks for them to start working. Having been through five, one did kick in the second day of taking it.
With that said, just focus on what you learned. Breathing exercises may help. You’ll do fine.
Yeah Prozac will take at least a week for any benefit. But the 10mg is just to see if you’ll have bad side effects. The side effects will kick in right away, though. That’s why I’d wait until after the driver’s test, because I myself would not want to feel nauseous.
Most side effects should fade after a few days. And next month they’ll probably give you an effective dose. But at first the side effects can be brutal, it really depends on the individual. At 10mg you shouldn’t suffer at all, but I would wait one more day.
I know how you feel cause when i started my anti-depressant (Fluoxetine-Prozac) i was scared what effect it would have on me. Well all it did was really just make me feel sick to my stomach but too it also depends on “mg” but honestly i think you would be fine.

I have nothing helpful to say about meds, but I just wanted to say if the instructor tells you to back up into an intersection and make a turn in reverse, remember your TURN SIGNAL. Bastard flunked me because I forgot that. Like seriously?!?
well, i mean, if you don’t use your signal, how will the other drivers know you’re going to make a move?
Signals are all about communication, not just arbitrary rules for sticklers.
Then again, who BACKS UP INTO AN INTERSECTION!? There are rules/standards for choosing proper placement for turnarounds. Intersections are pretty much last resorts for such maneuvers.
I almost “got failed” when my “instructor” (technically this person was observing my methods and dictating the path of travel, not actually “instructing.”) thought i didn’t look over my shoulder before merging. Yeah, i didn’t physically turn my head to that my face was pointed at the seat belt… but i checked my mirror and turned my head a bit, and looked with my eyes, over my shoulder… and i got a rather stern warning about “not looking over my shoulder before merging” which i actually DID do. I also totally rolled the car out of the parking spot at the beginning, without actually starting it. (lol)
The reason for this “turn your head” warning, is because that’s also a type of signal. Don’t just look at the road and the lights and the outsides of the cars, but look at the actual drivers and passengers inside them. A person who looks like they’re yelling at a car full of rowdy kids, is probably less aware of the roadway than someone who is making eye contact with you as you approach. People who aren’t aware have accidents.
I shouldn’t take them before your license test. I’ve got prozac too, started with 10 mg too and I got really sick, wouldn’t say you’ll get sick too, but IF you get sick, it won’t help you by your test. And they won’t work in one day. Also it’s generally known that prozac slows down your responsiveness. Doctors usually warn you for this side-effect, they say you have to watch out with car driving and things like that. I shouldn’t take them, they can only work negative in 1 day. Good luck with your test!!
Just a little update, I took the medication after my test and I passed! Thank you everyone 😀
