I’ve found some pessimistic quotes which I would like to share. Enjoy.
“That human life must be some kind of mistake
is sufficiently proved by the simple observation
that man is a compound of needs which are hard to satisfy;
that their satisfaction achieves nothing
but a painless condition
in which he is only given over to boredom . . .”
– Arthur Schopenhauer
“Life is like an onion:
you peel off layer after layer
and then you find there is nothing in it.”
– James Gibbons Huneker
“It is possible to live only as long as life intoxicates us;
once we are sober we cannot help seeing
that it is all a delusion,
a stupid delusion.”
– Leo Tolstoy
“You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back.”
“The limit of every pain is an even greater pain.â€
– Emile Cioran
“Imaginary pains are by far the most real we suffer,
since we feel a constant need for them and invent them
because there is no way of doing without them.”
– EMC
“The problem with killing yourself is that one is always too late.â€
– Michael Daddino
“Listen to the cry of a woman in labor at the hour of giving birth. Look at the dying man’s struggle at his last extremity. Then tell me whether something that begins and ends thus could be intended for enjoyment.â€

Very comforting to know that pain and despair is a timeless human condition.
Thanks for sharing (really)
I liked this post.
Does anyone find it… “strange,” that i find such eloquent pessimism quite humorous?
I laughed audibly at a few of these.
For some reason, i thought of an analogy while reading these:
Life is like coffee. You can stubbornly wait for it to change itself, and eventually find it dark, cold and bitter…
Or you can get it while it’s hot, put the cream and the sugar in the cup before you pour, and take it bright, warm, and sweet, with barely a stir.
Such a small concession and adjustment, can be the difference between a cup drained empty, and one left full.
Some prefer dark, cold and bitter… while others are just stubborn.
Schopenhauer had some good ones. “After your death you will become what you were before your birth”.
Bad Religion (the band) has quite a few I like too.
“My pessimistic lines, your superstitious lives
and the modern age’s lies won’t absolve you.
The professorial truth, the dear clairvoyant youth, and of course the nightly news will deceive you.
Watch out!
BR just doesn’t get enough shout outs.
@Fro-not-so-zen: You’re very welcome 🙂
Love this.
