I was just commenting and this idea crossed my mind. Ill try not to get too detailed.
Your life is the only proof of your consciousness; your ideas of right and wrong, your creativity and compassion, your love and fears.
Collectively this is what makes up our humanity, it’s what really matters in the end to us. Not our hate for each other or our wars, or our neglect for our own.
Collectively our consciousness is what has kept our speciese going all this time, otherwise we would be food for other animals. But we cling to life because we know it’s the right thing to do- its the survival instinct- it’s more than just buried somewhere deep in the synapses of our brains. It is what we know and communicate collectively as one, only scattered across 7 billion messengers. Our focus may be lost but our conciousness is what holds us together when it matters most.
Imagine if Einstein were to have committed suicide, or Ghandi, or Lincoln. Or if your not into real heros, how’s about Stan Lee? What if he didn’t want to live? Or the people who created the Internet..what if they didn’t hold onto their consciousness? Where would you be then?
Some people believe that because you are conscious of life’s real cruelty that life is hopeless and an abomination, but collectively we have shown that we are more than just our faults. You can see it everywhere you go, we are conscious of our own demise and we all work so hard to prolong the enevitable. Because we are conscious of what it means to live a good life, whether that is an actual life or just a dream of one, we are aware of what works and what doesn’t.
I believe it is worth staying alive to preserve what we have left of our humanity.
Don’t leave us alone in the dark…there are monsters here!

I think the issue is that too many perceive themselves as being unnoticed, unwanted, rejected, and thus believe they could never make as much of an impact as the celebrated names you mentioned. They say, I am not important, therefore it does not matter if I live or die.
Perhaps this is true, perhaps not. I don’t know.
It’s only a matter of time before one of these crazy despots acquires nuclear weapons and blows your collective consciousness to smithereens. You know who I feel sorry for… the trees. They provide us with materials, food and oxygen and never complain about it. You know, I’ve never heard anyone say a bad word about a tree.
Suicide reflects how sad the world is.
Do we want that to become our humanity?
Every life matters
Collectively….even the trees would understand
If the trees could understand, they’d be the most suicidal entity in the universe.
Consciousness isn’t really what makes us ‘alive’. I’m sure humans could survive as a species without consciousness, just the ability to react to environmental stimuli would be sufficient. Jellyfish for example, have no brains and I’m quite sure no consciousness, but still they are a successful (and even deadly) species. Consciousness can obstruct a person’s ability to survive because consciousness gives us judgment, and judgments can be wrong. Consciousness allows us to feel emotions which can drive us to do illogical things, even things that are completely against what we evolved to do i.e suicidal ideation. What I’m curious to know is when exactly did organisms become sentient? When was the transition from organic molecules to functioning, sentient organisms? Consciousness is still a mystery, what a strange thing it is to be conscious at all.
I still believe that we have a very limited consciousness, and that if there are beings which exist outside of earth, in other galaxies or perhaps even in other dimensions, that they might have a much broader awareness which encompasses that which we cannot begin to imagine.
@RealTalk30
I agree with your post…but then I love quantum theory as well. While I believe there are big changes coming…I don’t even entertain the extinction of the species. Besides as conscious beings…the bodies are mere tools anyway, are they not? We’d probably just wake up as a sea sponge or something and have to start all over again. Do you know anything about the Fifth World theories? Wherein the human race was almost decimated and had to rebuilt five different times in Earth’s history.
@Duke
I love trees. I believe they are wiser than we are. My current favourite is a 25 ft. ***** willow tree that gives me late afternoon shade. btw have you ever heard a tree die? I did once…he must have thought he was alone…sigh. It was painful to hear.
Sometimes you just have to be thankful for what (consciousness) you have.
…and use it wisely!
I have some news for you that some may find shocking. I don’t fully agree with anything I read on this site but to respond to ethical and philosophical questions would require more time than we have to dedicate to any particular question, to get closer to a solution. People think it’s easy, but it’s not.
@Ama- yeah I’ve heard of those theories. I will believe them until they can be disproven. And I believe we have to come back again in another life.. But essentially this post is more for people who believe they become nothing when they die. Trying to get people to see what they are is all they will ever be..so it’s time to stand now and not run away and kill themselves.
@Duke True enough. It’s not as if we could ever uncover the great secrets of the universe. 😛
@RealTalk30,
okie dokie I get it…but not really. scratch scratch scratch But all we can count on imo is the collective unconscious. I thought that was what you were referring to. so sorry. If I thought that this life was it…the end all and be all….well I’d be living it up more for sure. Waiiit a minute. It started raining here a while ago. I smoke outside…so I grabbed my umbrella and headed outdoors. Next thing I knew, into the puddle I went…both feet. But it’s okay…I had my umbrella afterall. If this is all there is I’m just gonna play a little harder. In the end it is my belief that all improvement pays off in the “end”? How redundant is that?
But I do agree with your post. A safe bet for sure…either way.
Peace
Amakua
@Ama- I meant yes I believe in reincarnation..but I believe we have to come back as another human. ….I feel like I’m shouting even though I’m not. Hehe
Consciousness exists so that the universe is able to understand itself. When the universe achieved this, it became complete. That’s the only useful comment I can make on this post because, in all honesty, I have no idea what it’s about.
“In the beginning the Universe was created. This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.â€
~Douglas Adams
I love that movie!! lol
DOUGLAS ADAMS. *fangirl squeal* He left us far too soon, that impossibly droll man.
