Suicide as a safety mechanism, self-defense. Do you ever think about committing suicide for fear that at some point in the future you will be tortured without escape? If we’d take for instance the occurrance of the Nazi experiments where people were captured, locked away and cut open (often without anesthesia)….let’s use that for example. So you are worried that something like this may happen to you in the future, or may happen to a loved one in the future. And that worry is not “crazy” or “weird” because anything under the sun can happen here in this world. If it’s happened once, it can happen a thousand times, why, because human nature is warped and there will always be plenty of warped people, Joseph Mengele’s, around, preying on others. So here is my question if you thought there was even a very remote chance of something like this happening, would you kill your family? Would you kill yourself? As a preventative measure. And how would you feel if one day you found yourself and your loved ones caught in such conditions, without an escape, would you hate yourself for not killing you and everyone else before that happened? Think of someone taking a drill and drilling into your teeth? Your eyes?

That’s definitely a concern of mine, not just for me but loved ones and even innocent strangers. Unfortunately there are very evil people in this world who get enormous pleasure from torturing others. I think the Hostel movies are not far from reality.
If I felt that I’d be caught by Nazis and tortured or experimented on, then yes definitely would end my life as quickly as I could and help my family to do the same.
Thing is we’re not in a war situation right now, so the real danger comes from psychopaths who blend in with society and prey on the vulnerable, esp. street kids, prostitutes, etc. I think there’s nothing worse in existence than suffering and torture. Many people consider suicide just because they are suffering or have tortured lives.
Happiness and freedom are fragile and can be easily destroyed. Freedom especially because people don’t know when to fight back or how.
did you watch “the mist”.when i read your post,this movie was the first thing that come in my mind.watch it,and don’t forget to thank me later.:)
Ah, but, we ARE in a war situation; it’s just a different kind of war in this modern technocracy. Wars are being fought with legislation and finance, social engineering and psychological enslavement. Make no mistake, we are deep in a war.
Sun Tzu would be proud.
Your enemy will not fight if he does not realize there is a war.
Guide your enemy toward a false threat, and he will be too busy fighting the wrong foes, to realize his land has been conquered.
It’s sort of like how they used to disguise sword skills as dance and calligraphy; literally “the art of war.”
Idk. I think if there were an eminent threat that my family might be captured and acutely tortured, and there would be little recourse or no way to prevent it… i’d probably want them equipped with emergency cyanide pills.
I believe everyone has the right to end their life. It’s my life I can do what I want with it. If a person was almost certain to die as a result of circumstances that could not be prevented such as illness and they were likely to suffer as a result then I’d respect the persons right to die. If there was only a slight chance they’d end up in that predicament then I don’t think they should be assisted because it’s not worth it for such a small risk. There are lots of people out there living a life worse than death. There are other ways to prevent suffering than suicide in some of those examples. There lives just weren’t important enough for anybody to care.
guys please,please watch “the mist”.the end part is heart breaking.you can find all the answers for this post their.
@ joinel- I agree with what David did. Even though it turned out awful for him. They had no way of knowing whether they’d be saved or not. I’d rather have my loved one shoot me than take a gamble that I’ll be saved and end up not being saved. Reminds me also of the hunger games. I think I would have been trying to kill myself and my friends and at least try to control the methods under which we’ll die rather than leaving it to fate and perhaps much worse methods.
@clevername
true but fortunately our ‘wars’ don’t result in real bloodshed and torture. One war we don’t see coming is the fight against today’s Nazism, which is Islam. That has and will lead to a lot of violence and death and most people are blissfully unaware.
@ joinel,
ya the Mist was a great movie…one of my fav’s…too bad about the ending, but at the time it seemed like the right decision.
