I have never actually spoken with a therapist or sought out any kind of mental health treatment. So I can only make guesses, since I have no personal experience with them. They may feel the need to keep things professional, keep themselves at a distance, not get overly emotionally involved. Maybe they believe that detached clinical approach is the best way to help. Also maybe all the time they spend in school studying mental disorders they start to see the real people having them as nothing more than just case studies from their books. Nothing more than a puzzle to be analyzed and studied and solved.
Therapists are humans, too. That being said, therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all sort of thing and neither are the therapists who administer it. The average patient who settles on a therapist will often go through several before finding the right fit. And the one that works for another patient with similar circumstances might not work for you. Your best bet is to be as open and candid with your therapist as is possible and don’t be afraid to ask for another one if you don’t think it’s a good fit. Therapists have feelings just like the rest of us, but they’re not likely too attached to a patient that isn’t being helped by their services and will not be offended if you feel it isn’t helping.
Therapist is spelled exactly as The Rapist. Therapist= The Rapist.
Coincidence? Probably. Don’t listen to experts – they’re just as full of shit as everyone else.
I think you’d be better off talking to a rock or a goldfish, but it’s your money. Do what you want.
Most psychologists/psychiatrists/therapists are messed up themselves. They went to college for 8 years to better understand themselves and now they make money by “helping” people.
You’d be better off smoking weed and asking for advice from your shadow. Or talk to a pizza. They’re better at giving advice than most therapists.
@ lorax; This site doesn’t have a karaoke section or a smoking area.
Check it out:
SP gets a smoking area, a sushi bar, and we introduce karaoke. You still with me?
We sell medicinal products – weed, vitamins, happy pills, whatever. We put up advertisement banners on the left and right side of the pages. Any pharmaceutical company that’s willing to pay can advertise. _ Hang On_ There’s more.
Portable Guillotines. How cool is that? A travel sized Guillotine? (Why has no one else ever thought of this? It’s brilliant).
Plus…..SP gets a pizza delivery service. Yes! Enjoy pizza as you contemplate suicide. Try the Hawaiian!!
Chinese Food? Have you tried the Szechuan Pigeon? No?! Well you haven’t lived yet, ************.
The possibilities are limitless, really. No one has tapped into the suicidal demographic yet…there’s a goldmine here waiting to be unearthed.
@struggle – I logged in to make this thread myself. It’s not as bad as couples therapy, so I can almost be thankful, but… fuck me. My life is already such a shit pile train wreck, I don’t need someone with different values trying to impose their personal agenda that needs to occur to “get my life back on track.”
Just going to go back to lying and saying that “everything is fine” every time I have to go so they think I’m actually considering their advice.
Many therapist and most “doctors” in the health care field are brain-dead and seriously lack common sense, they are so fucking over educated; so they completely lose touch to the real world and to the very people they are meant to help out.
So ironic and sad. Damn I hate those “normal doctors even more†– it just makes me wanna drink beer and punch a hole in a wall. They drive me crazy. They ruined my already little puny life dismissing my symptoms for so long, if they had acted sooner I probably would have things just fine now.
I´ve had one good therapist over the years, she didn´t moralize any of my actions and always gave me some new ways of thinking that I never had thought about before; that is how it should go, they are there to give people a different viewpoint and perspective in life. Sadly most of them just judge and demoralize already beaten people – and then drug them up. Job well done!
I agree with you Chevaleer as to try and find a good therapist for yourself; one who really listens and one who makes you feel you are being listened as well. It´s same as being in a job; there are some people you just don´t have anything in common or anything to talk to – only silence when being in the same room. And with some you just hit it off like that in a second.
After a while you might find a therapist with whom you could instantly get into the same level of understanding. And that is sometimes worth searching.

Only meatlover’s pizzas are good at giving advice. Don’t talk to one of those veggie pizzas. They’re the worst.

Happy suicide Saturday, everyone.
