The most important part of planning or imagining suicide (to me) is knowing what music will lull you to your final rest. I realize it may seem like an insignificant and even petty detail but don’t you think the last thing you experience should be the soothing beauty of your favorite music?
What song(s) will you leave as your final farewell?
I personally would like to hear Pink Floyd when I die. I imagine that before I act, I’ll listen to Comfortably Numb and Brain Damage and then, as I’m waiting for my method to take effect, I’ll listen to Goodbye Blue Sky, the last sound to reach my ears being the last few sad chords of the bass that, in life, have spoke more to me of sorrow than any word spoken by man. I believe it’s only fitting seeing as it’s music that has been with me my whole life.
So what will be the last thing you hear before you die?

Hurt – the Johnny Cash version
Suicide is Painless – the Manic Street Preachers version
Gorecki – Symphony #3
Any of those would do.
A Silver Mt. Zion – He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of our Rooms
^ Listen to this entire album from beginning to end. Its on YT to stream too. This will be the soundtrack to my exit in a few weeks. Probably one of the most depressing, at times haunting, at times beautiful, albums I have ever heard.
I’m serious, beginning to end with no interruptions.
Something I Can Never Have Flyleaf version bleak remix. Very suitable and haunting sounding.
What a topic 🙂 I listen to all kinds of music, but for me it would have to be something instrumental, most likely Blue in Green by Miles Davis – I feel I connect with that song on so many levels.
Not planning to end it that way but if I did, I’d have 3 choices: “Diabolos (Symphonic Ver.)”, “Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami (Symphonic Ver.)” or “Lotus (Symphonic Ver.)” — all songs are by Dir En Grey. (^_^)
Sadly I listen to very little music these days as I’m perma depressed and get no joy or even solace from most of it, just an annoyance that I want to replace with silence, so I probably won’t play anything as I wait for my method to take effect.
In the past I have loved music, so I totally understand the importance you place on it OP. And harking back to the next post on the afterlife, it is probably important to try and be in a serene frame of mind on exiting this life, so anything that promotes that is a good idea. Apologies to any materialist atheists who might be reading. I am not ignoring your views, just sharing mine.
Ooh! Great topic!
I haven’t finalized my final playlist, but some of the selections I’ve had in mind include (not necessarily in this order):
Ladytron “Ninety Degrees”
Nine Inch Nails “La Mer” probably followed by “The Great Below”
Maybe “Liquid Spear Waltz” by Michael Andrews from the Donnie Darko Soundtrack.
I will probably throw in some Nobuo Uematsu because I find his stuff so moving, but it would be tough deciding on a final section because I like so much of his work.
Maybe also some choice selections from the Secret of Mana soundtrack. I’m leaning toward “Elements” “Ice Castle” and “Purelands” beautiful, evocative, and soothing (though “Ice Castle” is also a touch melancholy, which is not inappropriate).
I also planned on having something pleasant to look at. For me, it would be series of photos of women I find especially beautiful. I have no girlfriend in my life and am unlikely to ever have one when my time comes, so the last thing I want to see before I go is a beautiful babe.
Does anyone else have something(s) they would like to see just before or during their final exit?
There are a lot of things I’d like see before I die but I know it’s unrealistic to try and achieve all of them so I’ll have pictures of the man I love with me as well as pictures of all my beautiful cats that have passed on without me.
Oh yes.
