I haven’t known this person for very long. At the start, she and I talked about everything…now, she’s kind of backed off and really doesn’t seem to want to talk at all. I really don’t see her in person, so I keep in contact over the internet. Should I keep talking to her and let her know that I care, or just let her have some space? I mean, should I keep trying, even if she acts like she wants to push me away?
Well, it kinda depends what they are upset about. If they are breaking down from loneliness you should be very persistant. If they are shy or have low self-esteem they will probably avoid you, be rude, and if given the opportunity not try to “hang out” – ignore these attempts and make them feel like; despite all their quirks, you really want to spend time with them.

Probably not a good idea to take my advice though.
Hey, any advice is good! I agree with what you said, I just don’t want to come on too strong or seem like a crazed stalker. It’s hard to decide if people really want to be left alone or if they are just afraid of being hurt. This friend has really been through some rough times and I wonder if they’re just too traumatized to trust me. I believe this person has been depressed their entire life.
When you all are depressed, do you find it obnoxious to have someone constantly trying to act like a friend? I don’t want to push this person even farther away…
Well, this might sound odd – but crazed stalker isn’t actually a bad thing. Again, this is only going from if he happens to be similar to the way im feeling – but he/she could be desperate for affection. I often fantasize about having a crazed stalker of my own – if you have someone caring for you that you are sure likes everything about you its a very secure feeling. If one has their own devoted yandere its a big boost to confidence – only down side is they may develop romantic feelings fairly easily for you. It’s kinda like gambling 😛
Okay, then I’m gonna keep on talking to them! I just needed to make sure that I was doing the right thing. Is it better to talk about the things that are making them depressed, or just keep the conversation on happy, upbeat stuff?
@Dirge. Thank you so much! This completely fits me because I am definitely someone who will write or talk non-stop to people I care about. If I think someone needs me, I will try my best to be there for them. Some people have said that I should be a counselor but I know that would drive me crazy; I would never leave my patients alone! lol. I’m not that worried about romantic feelings; I’ve had people with crushes on me before and it’s worked out okay…

you can listen to them
they need someone there for them that they can trust
and dont take no for a answer
be there for them, even if they try to deny you
