It boils down to how we think of ourselves. If we let others define us then we get caught up in the tangles of what we appear to be and who we are according to everyone else and we end up falling way short of some pile of fantastic expectations. That just makes us hate ourselves even more.
Somebody once said “What others think of you is none of your fucking business.”

Are you talking about the inside or outside. We may actually be attractive on the outside, but it’s the inside which is “us.”
