Thanks for posting link, this is good news for people on our side. Did you notice all the asinine comments that opposed this? I’d bet most if not all of them were from religious lunatics, they’ve always opposed sanity and rational thinking in society. Scum of the earth, how dare they take it upon themselves to decide for me (and others) what we are allowed to do to our own bodies.
I’m also fed up with democracy-mob rule, because if your gang is larger than your opposition then you call the shots. Some things should be sacrosanct and not subject to the will of the masses. But that’s an aside.
Hopefully such laws will become commonplace in the West and much more liberalized. I’ve heard they offer it to the terminally ill now in Canada. It’s a step in the right direction-finally. It will probably be accepted in more liberal cities in the US as well. The Christian states will probably remain behind the times for a while, but at least the desperate and cross into states that allow it.
Still I think they should just create a safe, effective painless suicide pill and give it to anyone that wants it (of course for their own use and with medical supervision).
The problem is that people who whant to help us, suicidal people, don’t have good intention.
I was sure euthanasia for very ill and disabled people was step one. Step two, depressive, step three, old people, Step four, the society will change, so if you are disabled, or ageing, or depressive or unemployed, you will be considered as a weak parasit if you don’t take your life.
It’s a double-edged sword… They are not altruist, be certain of that.
Nonsense, it’s called the slippery slope fallacy and a common argument used by opponents of euthanasia. Gotta go soon so I’ll keep it short. If you put the proper safeguards in place, like having 2 doctors present, family-members around, etc then no one will be killed against their will.
Society still needs people around to do necessary labor, capitalism does better with a large pool of available workers. Will errors happen? Obviously there’s no such thing as a perfectly working system, but you cannot deny a very significant need exists and withhold from a large number of people because of the risk of one or two making a bad decision.
I could argue this till the cows come home but I think you get the gist of it. It’s high time we’ve finally moved away from barbarism and allowed people to end a bad life on their own terms.
She wasn’t forced to live when she didn’t want to be, and it was not an impulse decision. Alot of stupid comments from people who read the article. Hope shes… well, not suffering anymore.
Heh, people who want to live •= not mentally ill
wanting to die = mentally ill
Wanting to die does not automatically mean someone is mentally ill. Seems to be an ignorant reader who posted that, just like most of them
Suicide should be a medical service open to everybody.
If it is something very simple like a suicide pill that everybody can take on their own with a glass of water there should be no more questions than when go to a doctor to get a vaccination.
If it is a procedure that requires a physician to be present it seems fair that more precautions are in place to protect the physician. But it shouldn’t be more than filling in a form (with a witness maybe) stating that it is your wish to die. Nothing more should be required.
You see only your life, you don’t see the social plans they have.
I don’t talk about your own exit, it’s your choice, but in the future people, and especially older people, won’t have the choice we have now.
IMHO the problem of this is (and always will be) money. Why? because when there’s money almost everything is corruptible. How long until really wealthy people who want to die try to bypass whatever system is imposed by opening their wallets? when that happens just watch the human rights freedom fighters (which usually do it for recognition and their own interests) go on a daily parade until euthanasia is not legal anymore. Hell, they even throw that daily parade now, and euthanasia is not legal in most of the world.
If your comment was directed at mine (i’m guessing it was) i agree with what you say, but you misunderstood what i said haha. What i was saying is that most likely people with money could try to bypass the criteria needed for euthanasia (in case that they don’t meet that criteria), and if that happens, that would likely cause an uprising from the human rights advocates. In an extreme case there could also be people using the system to kill others, but it’s obviously all hypothetical ramblings on my part.
Yes population control, but not only. If you have seen soylent green, it’s the (metaphorical) goal. People who are useless –> euthanasia (encouraged).
So, no choice. When something rejoice yourself, don’t think our learders are acting by altruism, it’s a good lesson from living and observing. When they do something that seems generous, there is always a dark side. Try to find the dark side. All I have planned about their progressive “steps” happend so far, so I guess I can be right this time again.
Yeah, i’ve read and seen enough to know that they are slowly killing people. Funniest thing is that when you say that in the open, people say that you are crazy (even if they can clearly see that what you are saying is true). I remember several teachers i’ve had have repeated the same thing at some point “the system will support itself, and will make people that are part of it defend it, even if it’s killing them”… and sadly, that’s true.
I watched soylent green when i was just a kid, but thanks for reminding me of it, i will watch it again.
I’ve seen 2 movies in my life, as a kid, that made my way to think different of other people of my age, it was soylent, and the second one is a French movie about the Milgram experience. I had a schock with this movie. And since this day, I always try to make my own ideas, not with other people’s opinion, and having a Descartes’ doubt about everything.

If my link doesn’t pass the moderation, type after youtube url: watch? v=Yznmn5kHXBI
without the space after the “?”
(mods, my link is safe)

Thanks for the link.
They are on the right track.

On the right track? Don’t you see they use us?
No.
I don’t see anybody using me when I exercise my right to determine my own exit.
Everybody must have that right.
You see only your life, you don’t see the social plans they have.

(When did i get so cynical? lol).
rich, poor, in the middle earnings, everyone should be allowed to die no matter how much or how little money they have

Don’t worry, the poors will be the first people to be given euthanasia soon.
That sounds more like population control, lol (i guess that’s what you’re implying).
