I guess I underestimated my ability to be able to afford to live on my own, without a job. I suppose I’ll have to give up eating… which could be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it.
Yeah. That would also solve my problem of having no way to cut the grass. (Here we say ‘mow the lawn’. I’m trying to Americanise my speech for you so you understand.)
Find a way to make your lawn combative, angry, and ready to declare war on any other lawn that has a different religion, skin color, or oil that can be exploited.
That’s how we roll over here.
I hadn’t really thought about that. I’ve never been in the position before of being this poor…. I know I couldn’t rely on food banks indefinitely though. It’s not really a long term solution and I don’t see my financial situation changing anytime soon. Or ever.
You can work it out, even if your clinging on to options, go to the food bank, if you don’t want it from a long term, at least it give you time. Whatever you decided, just make sure you have no regrets.
WINZ not an option, or is that what you’re currently living on? Food parcels ain’t too bad — mind you, I’d pack them to my specifications ready for distribution to those who needed them since the ones I used to get were rubbish. Not sure if that particular church stuck to the guidelines I’d left behind though.
HNZ is giving me the boot in five months. Got the call yesterday morning first thing. Looks like I’ll have no choice but to be homeless once that happens
Why are they giving you the boot?? Unless you’re living in too many bedrooms I thought that once you were in a Housing NZ house, you pretty much are allowed to stay there? I know a guy who abused that. His wife was disabled, so they were entitled to a house. They got a 3 brm house, just for the two of them. Then they split up. She left, and he stayed in the house. They were trying to get him to move to a smaller house but weren’t able to force him, as far as I know.
Yes, WINZ is what I’m currently living on. Rent is half my weekly pay.
Well assuming you have no job means your on the benefit? You should go to winz and ask them for a food grant, your entitled to around 4 per year. I just found out winz helps you pay for your car to get fixed too. I got $1200 from them last week because I’m on unemployment benefit and I need my car to find employment. There’s so many things you can get that I’m sure people don’t know about. Do you know you can even get clothing grants? Pay for your drivers license, special licenses haha no wonder people stay on the benefit forever. I’m kind of better off not working.
But yeah… no need to starve in nz if you ain’t to proud to ask lolz
Good info, thanks. I did make an appointment to ask for help with firewood, but I wasn’t able to find anywhere that did winz quotes. I know I can do all this… in theory… getting up the motivation to do it, that’s another thing.

Overestimated, dammit!
You can eat grass. It’s plentiful and cheap.
It’s probably healthier than Del Taco too.

Are food banks not a thing around your area?

Why are they not long term solutions? I have a cousin who has had to use food banks for the past 8 years or so.
