What fortune? You eating Chinese? Funny story: my friend and I were reading our fortune cookie fortunes after eating Chinese food and he said “you won’t believe what my fortune says.” His fortune was “bout time someone let me out of that fortune cookie!” I kid you not. I thought he was joking and he handed me the paper and sure enough that’s indeed what it said. 🙂
that fortune was from the free tarot site i just went on. picked 6 random cards, and 1 said i was hermitting lol. can’t believe it was so spot on.
heh, they should make those fortune cookies more funny. the ones i get aren’t even fortunes (not that i eat those things but i sometimes crack them just to read what it says). oddly, mine are never good, like “good things will happen to you soon.” man, even fortune cookies are against me… (to be fair, they don’t say bad things either, not like “you’re going to die” stuff)
Unless of course a giant prehistoric octopus grabs you! But that would be unlikely seeing there hasn’t been a sighting of one of them since the early 60’s from Lloyd Bridges on a Sea hunt episode.
This one’s easy to answer, getting struck by lightning.
Since the original version of zombies has nothing to do with the Hollywood version, I don’t see how it would ever be possible for there to be an actual zombie apocalypse. Bokors aren’t that powerful. That’s assuming one believes the creation of zombies is a reality.
Getting struck by lightning, however, is not that uncommon, especially if you take part in certain activities.
It is widely held that the movie Night of the Living Dead changed how zombies were portrayed, although they never used the term zombie in that movie but refered to them as ghouls.
They have no powers. In fact the opposite, as they are mindless and enslaved. A good place to start reading about them would be a book called The Serpent and the Rainbow by Wade Davis (the movie is only slightly based on the book. The book is serious non-fiction, whereas the movie is fictional horror). I have an academic paper on my phone, but I’m not sure if I can link to it here. I can try.
Older Hollywood movies, like White Zombie, do not portray the practice accurately, but they stick closer to the original meaning of zombie.
Far more men are struck by lightning than women and a lot of people are struck while around water. The activity I enjoy that makes me vulnerable is hiking in the mountains. I’m very careful to keep an eye on the weather, but it can come up so quickly that you can’t get down in time. I’ve had it happen.
The reason more men are stuck by lightning is prolly bc men tend to do more stupid stuff, especially outdoors, take more risks, and refuse to come inside right away in inclement weather, while women tend to take the safer route, usually. …and not flying kites in lightning storm lol
Looking at the statistics from NOAA it appears to be more prevalent among men simply because they’re more likely to be outside working or enjoying these particular leisure activities. What NOAA does not address, however, is that men tend to be more stubborn and far less likely to admit vulnerability, which means they might not come inside when bad weather is approaching like women will.
Although, my boyfriend saved us from being in a much worse situation than we otherwise would have been. I was sitting on a rock meditating when he noticed bad weather coming up and alerted me that it was time to go. We still ended up caught in a lightning storm on a mountain side, which is like being in a war zone.
If it was raining, it is theoretically pretty safe to get drenched and stay sitting on a rock, in terms of not getting electrocuted. As long as both ends (or legs) are on the ground, creating a closed loop. Electricity takes the shortest path, and that loop is not the shortest path so it won’t go through you. Although, you would be freezing cold and wet…
Or, hop into your car, don’t move, and not touch any metal (the frame of the car creates a safer barrier- as long as you don’t touch any metal whilst inside).
We did run for the car, but it wasn’t close by. We were also risking a tree falling on us or hail big enough to cause injury. Lightning was striking the ground all around us so close that it actually hurt.
Oh dear, hard to explain. Of course the flash hurts the eyes and the boom hurts the ears, but it also felt like sort of a combination static electric shock and shock wave hitting the body. It was mild discomfort, and may have been a psychological response to the sound, but that’s the best way I can explain it.

I think the odds are more likely I’d get struck by lightening. Sigh.
No it won’t because you don’t like going outside remember? 😛
LOL, I suppose so. Hm, zombie apocalypse then. 😛
Hey- if a zombie eats a depressed brain, will they become a depressed zombie???
yes!!! And shooting them in the head won’t help!
I was always under the impression that most zombies were depressed anyway…
jadedjewel- my fortune says I should stay a hermit for the time being…

_darkness,
You stop being depressed and become happy 🙂

I like rocketman’s idea!
You mean the Kraken? 😛
yeah! i forgot about that! the Kraken!!! your doomed!!! i hope it chokes on you!! 🙂
I’ll deep fry it and eat it. Or maybe feed it to a zombie. See if the zombie now becomes a squid zombie…
Now that’s a positive attitude!!! and sounds like a new movie!!! 🙂
Hey, a giant monster attacking your city could be another choice. 😀
defeat it and…free sushi for everyone?? 😛
bring on the zombie apocalypse. ..

what’s the original version of zombies?
They are a very minor and shadowy part of the Vodun (Voodoo) religion in Haiti.

what are their “powers”? what can they do? are they just the undead…?

And physical zombies are in the minority. Far more common is the zombi astral, which is capturing the spirit of a dead person.
mindless and enslaved eh? i would love to turn my enemies into zombies 😀
yeah like flying kites??
LOL, I don’t know the statistics on that.

Sorry, I phrased that wrong. I meant to start with “I agree with you….” and then say that NOAA couldn’t address this. My typing got ahead of my brain.

Wow, you can feel the ground as the lightning was striking it nearby? Was it hot? What does it feel like?

This was around 10,000 – 10,500 feet.
Maybe we ought to invent a giant bug zapper for humans!!! 🙂
