I don’t believe in the nonsense that “video games make kids more violent” and stuff like that. But what about the things we like to watch? I’m TOTALLY into watching dark stuff, like animes and movies that involve death and superpowers and action and ass-kicking. Also like to watch Forensic Files before I hit the sack every night (it’s a show about real life murderers getting caught by science. Yeah, talk about dark). Totally hate watching stuff like romance, rom-coms, generally not into the nice touchy feel-y good rainbows and sunshines s***.
Does what we watch say something about us? What does it mean when someone really loves to watch dark gory violent stuff? I’m not a bad person, generally a good person, but somehow, I like watch dark stuff. And action stuff. And sci-fi fantasy stuff. Just never been a fan of normal happy, cheery, romantic, sappy, lovey, girly crap (I’m a girl).
What does it mean? Is it “normal”? I can never tell people IRL what I like to watch because people look at me funny, all the death and gore in the fantasy movies and animes. Especially since I’m a girl. Apparently, if you’re a guy, watching “gory” stuff is okay. But if you’re a girl? You get s*** for loving watching bloody gory violent stuff.
Oh, by “dark” I don’t mean like the “deep dark web” thing. Noooo, not into that stuff. Just “normal” gory animes and movies stuff. Slasher films. Bloody gory fantasy killing movies. But even that seems unacceptable for the mainstream public. So I’ll tell people I like watching Dexter, or Hannibal, you know, popular mainstream stuff, but I’d never tell them I like watching Forensic Files or murder documentaries or cannibal documentaries or things involving death. Somehow, I love watching the gory and macabre. 😛
How many of you here are really into the dark, gory, violent fantasy animes and movies and tv shows? Are suicidal people like us more into like watching death related stuff? Or am I the only one? Am I just weird?

Mhh, I’m suicidal and that kind of stuff too, but I still like comedy/school/slice of life animes.
I watch gore/action/dark animes too though.
I just watch it for the story I guess.
And I don’t think you’re weird, everyone has his/her own taste, so yeah.

can’t speak for everyone, but i certainly “browse” death and gore once in a while(okay maybe a bit more often that than), and i got a feeling a bunch of “suicidees” do,
but ask yourself this, just because you like or enjoy what you watch, would you do it, inflict such “gore” upon others
or whatever “darkness” you enjoy as an audience member, do you think or feel like you would spread that onto others and become the “performer”?
or do you merely find some enjoyment and satisfaction, because your horror tolerance has been build up so high that you now need the “good stuff” to be able to get just some “high”
or is it in fact just perfectly normal and fine to watch some of that stuff with a healthy mindset able to distinguish guilty pleasure from reality and it’s just the other prissy prude fucks that have something yet unlabeled in the DSM, perhaps a case of “stickupius arsus”
people like labels, labels are easy, nice and neat way to sort little boxes,
but are you “Anime”/”dark”/”Gory”?,
or is that just a part of you, a part only significant to you but insignificant to the world?, if so, why should the world be able to label you or put you in a dark gory Anime box, when you are perfectly fine and able to sever your own limbs and use them in the Anime you like in whatever gory way you desire
people should be able to appreciate it when you hump down the street with your own little marionette of severed limbs, because that’s a sight to behold and a perfectly good show
but we gotta wait for the DSM to label them so they can be cured for their “”stickupius arsus”
I don’t think so. I’ve watched all sorts of things from slasher films to rom cons and enjoyed them. I love Forensic Files and pretty much any forensic oriented show…the show Snapped was one of my favorites. I do like dark and macabre things, but sci fi and fantasy aren’t really that interesting to me. I like a good drama with really good acting, not really into special effects. The problem with rom cons I think is that they are so predictable, so can be a little boring, but sometimes they are funny. I loved Penny Dreadful and that was dark and macabre but had such great acting too…. so THOSE type shows or movies I like the most. That had some sci if- ish qualities to it but because the acting and constant antagonism in the storyline, I was able to overlook it and really enjoy it. But I like to laugh and sometimes want something more lighthearted. It really depends on my mood.
Hmmm I mostly watch musicals. I just binge watched Sex and the City. I watch a bunch of Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire…
It must be a generational thing.
SeeSmith, Do you feel you understand women better after watching Sex and the City? I was talking with friends once about which character we thought we were most like… I said I was a mix of all of them in one woman really : the hopeless romantic that is Charlotte, the pessimist that is Miranda, the what’s good for the goose is good for the gander inner strength independent type that is Samantha and the klutzy chaotic financial shoe loving mess that is Carrie….all rolled into… one hot mess. Lol
Sex and the City had nuttin’ to teach me. I am an old hand at that game.
I think it had a profound statement about friendship and especially forgiving your friends.
Crazy people (us) tend to dramatically cut people out of our lives for minor infractions. I watched my mom whittle her friends down to zero. I have done the same thing at times. I liked that the gals in SatC fought occasionally but forgave and respected each other.
