Robin Williams, though the answer might be different if we included celebrities who ran their lives into the ground, like Heath Ledger, John Candy, Chris Farley, etc etc.
I actually had to think for a moment, which of them actually killed themselves. Williams is an interesting case if little else. He has at least two movies where the subject of suicide directly comes up; Hook and Dead Poet’s Society. In DPS the subject is one of his students, but Hook it’s more about him (Peter Pan) and Captain Hook.
Anyway the line comes up, both applying to him and Hook; “Death is the only adventure I have left.”
Then at the end of the movie, one of his family observes; “Well, now your adventures are over”
and he replies “No, to live would be an awfully big adventure.”
anyway. every time I watch that last scene I ugly cry, knowing he decided to end it himself…. he was a beautiful kind human being.
Chris Cornell, though some people think he was murdered I personally believe it was a suicide. I can relate to his struggles with depression and suicide. He had a great voice as well, sad that he went the way he did.
The same for me and Fell on black days is my favorite song and comforts me for some reason when I want to end it all. I hope he is saying hello to heaven…
I love Cornell’s songwriting and went to a concert on his acoustic tour around a year before he passed. One thing that was strange was that he ended the concert with practically deafening feedback ringing around the venue for several minutes as people left, and it was honestly not pleasant to listen to. I found it a bit strange at the time but I don’t know if it was a sign that he didn’t really give a fuck anymore.
so many good ones.. I have high respect for celebrity suicides (except the few nutjobs who kill/hurt others). Respect for different reasons in every case but the top of my list is probably David Bowie. His wasnt a death of despair, he had a great run but cancer said time’s up. So on his birthday he released 1 final masterpiece album, had a big party with all his friends & loved ones, then the next day “died suddenly at home”. What a great success story

Gotta be Hitler, hasn’t it? One of the best decisions he ever made.
