We exist for no more meaning than we find in existing. However, we also exist for the value that others find in us. So your own valuation of your life can be argued against. You could well be wrong.
I think that’s the part of post modernism that people miss. You could be wrong. Just because your subjective observation isn’t allowed to be wrong, the conclusions you make could be.
I find value in almost everyone. If you can flick metaphorical sand in the eye of the people with power who don’t do anything about mental health and education issues, and let them know that’s WHY they are getting irritated, well that’s a huge amount of purpose you’ve just had to me.
Seriously, if you don’t have anything else to do with your life, resources for the mentally ill and education are scarce and it’s a huge problem. If you’d irritate anyone who could make a difference, you’d be making that difference. I’m thinking especially of elected officials, local legislatures hold a lot of power, and most people ignore them.
The content of your life makes it meaningful, is my take. I think if you do your best, that’s the most meaningful life you could have led. However, that’s a high standard, incredibly high.
I’m just shooting for more meaningful than average, and I’m hitting that goal.
“exist for….something/nothing” implies there’s a purpose to our existence.
I believe that’s a fallacy that seems to disregard the origin of everyone’s ‘coming into being’ or existence.
You weren’t “created” or put here for a reason. The answer to this question is as simple as examining what led your parents to hook up and have kids.
That’s really it…your parents banged and boom here you are…nothing ‘deeper’ than that.
So in a sense you’re right, we ‘exist for nothing’…for no reason whatsoever…people make up their own reasons for existing.
Some think it’s religion to serve some god blinding following/worshipping, wasting one’s life decided to these ancient silly myths, superstitions.
Some think it’s to help others, or to get rich, or to explore the universe and so on.
People invent their own reason for being…for me I just want to be in a better place in life, bang a lot of hot girls and maybe settle and have kids…but I’m basically over the hill now and that’s becoming a long shot for me…but still trying.
Oh and I have some business ideas I’d like to see take off…but again a lot of pipe-dreams here.
So ya in the end there’s no real purpose to life except what people make it…but I feel life is really short…it “feels” long on a day to day basis, but decades seem to zoom by.
I’ve often thought, sometimes daily of ending it…but I know this is the only life I’ll get and as bad as it is now, I feel I can make it better….I’ve been better in the past.
But ofc if it doesn’t improve then I’m willing to accept defeat, lament over the things I could’ve had but didn’t and find a fast and easy way “out.”
You’d think on a chat site like this an ‘edit’ button would be a no-brainer…lazy people like me don’t proofread.
Correction: Some think it’s religion to serve some god, blindly following/worshipping, wasting one’s life, being dedicated to these ancient silly myths/fables and superstitions.
One more point I’ll add to my note above:
Sadly we all live and die like flies…rarely noticed by anyone…one day we’re alive enjoying the sun and all that life offers…then a short blip later we’re gone as if we were never there.
I could disappear tomorrow and apart from a handful of people no one would know or care and the world would go on.
Someone passed away at my workplace last year…they made some mention about it, but I never knew this person in any way and they were gone. So I think it’s the same for all of us…the world keeps spinning on.
I wish in a way we were immortal, I’d love to see where humanity ends up in a thousand, a million and a billion years from now…but it won’t ever happen unless we can find a cure to aging or upload our brains to a computer…and that probably will take centuries if ever.

We exist to continue the cycle. It’s not nothing, but it’s meaning would vary dependent on if you care or not. I do not, but i’m sure many people do.

No clue.

For those who are curious about time travel, there is at least a couple known ways to go into the future…but not the past (for now).
Take a spaceship and get as close to ‘c’ (light speed) as possible….time slows down for you, the Earth relatively goes faster.
Or take your spaceship, park near a black hole for a few years and millions of years will go by on Earth.
Going back in time would be just as grand…but for now it’s inaccessible to us on a scientific basis.
