Hogwash or True?
People have REAL problems- like poverty, health problems, bad jobs, bad bosses, bad coworkers, not being able to afford a good apt in a good neighborhood, etc. But we’re constantly being told by therapists “we just need to change our mentality.” Like isn’t that what DBT and CBT all about? Telling us that the way we think is WRONG, and we just have to think differently so that we’d be happy.
But isn’t that just lying to ourselves? All it does is have the whole world tell us that we are WRONG, and that we must be like robots or good little lambs like the rest of them.
I’m tired of being gaslit- by drs, by therapists, by the rich (so that the masses don’t revolt), and by society at large. What if we are realists and think logically and rationally- but the actual reality is that life is shit (unless you’re rich and healthy). Then we are not wrong- we are right- but the reality is depressing so therefore WE get labelled as depressing and “negative.”
Like no, life is not roses and sunshine- not for the vast majority. Not for the poor, not for the working class, not for the disabled. Life is shit.

Like most really good lies; it’s a partial truth.
CBT and DBT are both decent tools in moderation, but they can’t fix poverty. They can’t fix abusive people either, and they really can’t fix bad employers.
The problem our society has is that we send the victims to therapy, when while the victims do need support, it’s the abusers who need to change. Yet why would they? It’s all working for them, they get to keep earning money, they can fire whoever they want, and poverty isn’t hurting THEM.
Which is why I keep coming back to the same thing I always do; We have to hurt them legally, we have to be as patient and cunning if not moreso than they are. They’re arrogant jerks, and they are not invincible, as much as they may feel it.
When I try to quit I do try to make it clear that I’m going back to plotting to destroy capitalism, that I’m well educated, competent and that I will consider this a failure of the system to me. See, because framing does matter, marketting matters.
I just did this with my penny pinching employer and bam, suddenly they’re giving me more support and hours. Accident? You know it isn’t. Their tools work just as well on them.
They’re just as human as we are, often times moreso, because they have more to lose. We’re closer to death, waiting for it, wishing for it. They’re invested in life, poor wretched losers.
Wait- what did you do/say to get your employer to give you more hours?
I threatened to quit
did they cut other ppl’s hours too or just yours? budget cuts?

–Exactly this. Society/Therapists always put the blame on the PATIENT/VICTIM- and if you don’t agree with DBT/CBT that tells you you just need to think differently to be happy, and you’re not happy or you’re pessimistic or a realist- then you are labeled as THE PROBLEM.
Gaslighting in the medical and therapy industry is fcking insane.
